Settling in with some 1792 and my "book" to wait for the gas company tech who is going to perform the required (by them) periodic replacement of my gas meter. No big inconvenience, as all I have to do is be around during the arrival window they were kind enough to provide: 8:00 AM-4:00 PM.

Good old 1792! Without doubt the blend I'll ask for on death row for my final smoke when my misdeeds finally catch up with me. 1792! The only tobacco I'm aware of that will not only ghost your pipes, it will ghost your mouth.View attachment 253850
Hope they don't show up before 3:00, or you may have to find something else to do and miss out on a few bowls! :ROFLMAO:

First smoke from a pipe that arrived in the mail half an hour ago. Haddo's.

Very thick walls, so bound to smoke cool* and it's a D grade!**

*this isn't a factual statement, but as an inveterate pipe smoker of longstanding I thought it my duty to do my bit, reinforce assertions made with frequency by my brethren, and thus contribute to the magical thinking on which the pursuit thrives.

**this is a factual statement, but one entirely without significance since no one in the entire world has the slightest clue as to whether the maker even had a grading system, much less how it worked. Nor do they care. As such, I've taken it upon myself to declare that "D" was his highest grade, with the possible exception of the perhaps apocryphal "D+ Supreme" none of which are thought to have ever been made or even contemplated.
I invented the grading system. There is one higher. Dm for details

Fairly spectacular for a British factory-made piece from the 60s. It'd make a Charatan blush.

That's some great looking grain on a beautiful pipe.
I'm of the belief that the 60's decade was the best era for pipes. Whether it was Dunhill, or Dr. Grawbow; pipes from that era just seemed to have the best briar.

A quarter of a bowl left of year 2012 Rolando’s Own in a smooth straight early ‘60s Lane era “William Conrad” Charatan Executive Extra Large stretch apple with diagonal channel cuts on the lower right and left of the bowl along with a black vulcanite double comfort saddle stem. Getting ready to watch the Rangers-Astros game.
