I’ve been wanting to try a Bakelite stem, Abe says they are in between vulcanite and acrylic in terms of softness. I’ve owned old Bakelite clocks, ashtrays, etc and I like the material.

Usually, but it’s unpredictable. I’d snatch it up. You can’t go wrong with it.

There will be more, he is easy to work with on commissions if you wanted to go that route. Can’t recommend him highly enough.

Getting ready to watch UFC. Going to have G.L. Pease Spark Plug in one of my earliest Eugène-Léon Ropp pipes (and my largest at 26" in length), a Cherrywood with a Natural Horn Stem. It’s stamped “Bussang,” so, it’s very likely it was made at Ropp’s original workshop there between 1870–1893.

Check out his gallery, he is very versatile and easy to work with. I think he had a very distinct style. He has lots of years of experience at this point, also makes guitars, or used to. I’d say he is my favorite American carver and still cheaper than say J Davis or J Alan. I really enjoyed the commission experience.

Another great blend! A nice straight up VaPer. I like the assortment of Virginias in this blend. Definitely a contender for a favorite VaPer. Excited for a full bowl!
