Another cold spell is forecast for Anchorage so I took a spare hour to walk the dog down to the local lake (now a frozen snow field) before it gets too cold to enjoy a pipe. I mixed the Sutliff Troost match with some 70s Middleton's Cherry (rehydrated) and enjoyed the 70s codger vibe in a Comfort brand pipe from the same era.

I probably won’t be piping for a few days but I will be lurking here to watch what blends and pipes are in rotation for those in more moderate climates. To the Americans here, have a safe and happy Thanksgiving holiday!

Merde Cheval. This is a great red Virginia forward English blend. They add a great maple syrupy sweetness to the burleys. The Latakia is almost always there with some light Perique. There are Orientals, but they aren’t as important as everything else. This is a nice change of pace from your typical English. I love this stuff and think it smells great.IMG_1248.jpeg

Did some low calorie snacking, and am passing the quarter mark of this bowl of year 2014 Edgeworth Ready Rubbed Match in a very much appreciated 1979 brown, slight bend grain etched flat front Stanwell Rego 969-48 (09) with a black vulcanite saddle stem. Ice water and bergs is my drink. Just fed all the ferals.

Lots of action to catch up on in the morning I see - had company and just going to post now, 10:30 PM PST. As I said last post, I'd try one more smoke with Amphora Absolute, this time in my large meer. Has about the same bowl capacity as the Ropp J07 I used this afternoon. So I loaded it with the same loose 2 pack and expected the same 30 - 35 minute smoke with this pipe, and got exactly that.

But what can I say about the meer? It's broken in now fully, and just starting to take on a tinge of color, not much but there, not much showing in the photo unless you use your imagination. But I can see now why people rave about meerschaum. It revealed even more variety in the Orientals than the Ropp, if that is possible. If the Ropp was A++, the meer was A+++. I'm a believer now. If I had to start over again buying pipes . . . . . :ROFLMAO:

Half way through this bowl of 2018 Sutliff Walnut Match in a 1990s smooth brown medium bend briar calabash shaped Butz-Choquin Maitre Pipier JR Fait Main with a horn ferrule and a black vulcanite stem. Watching a couple of episodes of MLB TV's Sounds of Baseball. Brings back a lot of happy memories.

Passing the last third of this bowl of Watch City American Cut Plug Mixture in a straight smooth brown undated Gesandt Canadian Made in England with a tapered black vulcanite stem. This pipe was originally owned by Poul Schluter, who was the Prime Minister of Denmark from 1982-1993. Fed all the ferals except for the absent Abner the Eager. I had keep everybody away from Sleepy Suzy when she ate, or she wouldn't.

Stanislaw series 4 Elements, Fire Mixture. Flavor group: Aromatic
Strength: Light
Cut: Ready Rubbed
Composition: Virginia, Burley
Flavoring: Spices/herbs
Manufactured by Dan Tobacco Manufacturing, Germany.
Personal impressions - quite simple, weakly cushioned aromatisation (good for me). The Water Mixture from this series seemed more interesting to me in taste. Pipe - Peterson Christmas 2012 xl05IMG_2657.jpeg

👍🏻A beautiful pipe, quite elegantly made and the structure of the drawing looks great. But I have never had Canadians in my collection, I will have to take a closer look at them.
