This is actually from last night's last smoke. Hadn't posted it yesterday but it is perhaps a bit interesting in it's observations. Start with the picture:

Yesterday's Experiment.JPG

Top pipe, McQueen "Hafling", which is perhaps my best and longest smoking longstem. Briar. Can easily get 70 minutes from it with the right fodder. So out of curiousity, I filled it with a tobacco I'd kind of slagged before, C&Ds Autumn Evening. and use it only in my chewing tobacco concotion. I loaded a 3 pack fairly loose with the tobacco, lit up and frankly, quite enjoyed the smoke. Until it stopped. At 21 minutes. Re-lt. got another minute. And that was it. Emptied the pipe and it was all finished. Thinking it was a bad dream, I let it cool down and refilled and re-lit. And remembered the same result a few months earlier. This is (along with Bourbon Bleu) the fastest burning tobacco I've ever smoked. I get more time from some miniatures. Tried one. Got about 8 minutes with AE. I can understand why people like this fodder. It is very pleasant tasting. But too expensive for me to consider stocking it in the tax climate I live in. $85 bucks a tin? Nope. I'll buy one a year for chew. If you can help or advise, please do so.

The other pipe below, my estate Ropp 350, from the 1950s which I showed a few days ago, is a well used piece of history. I cleaned it out, re-broke it in with a high-burley codger, and cleaned it out again. Last night, after all of the breaking in (I finished also my last Falcon bowl) I was tongue and lip dead. Didn't even want a cigar. Finis. So, being a sucker for punishment, I loaded the Ropp with Pirate Kake, which is 75% lat and about the only thing I could handle at that point. And I had an absolutely fantastic smoke. The pipe acted like my J16 or J05. Smoked like them. Responsive. Sensitive, and Smooth. And I'd never tasted a better Pirate Kake. Repeated the combo this morning with the same result. YESSSS! It has found its soulmate.

The pipe, like my other Ropps, is now dedicated to one tobacco - The R07 to a genre (orientals only) because it is a very versatile and forgiving pipe - handles everything I've put in it, from Steamworks to Sunday Picnic to Amphora Absolute (Rich in the USA) with a real differentiation in the myriad of flavours the genre presents. The J05 gets only Black Frigate, and the J16 is dedicated to Mad Fiddler. Each of the pipe/tobacco combinations is stellar, better than in any other pipes. So be it. And now, Pirate Kake? I consider myself to be a lucky man. I'll go away now, and drop in tomorrow!

So I’m in a bit of an experimental conundrum. This ‘Old Port’ pot (made by Bingham) from the late 60s is a pipe I’ve not been smoking much. Reason being, is that looking at it, it’s a smaller, quicker smoke. I generally only smoke one pipe a day, and when I do, I want a nice long smoke. Interestingly though, despite a clear smaller amount of tobacco stuffed, it smokes as long or longer than some of my other, larger bowl favourites. I’m still a newbie and can’t account for this. What I will say, for richer VaPers, the wider bowl makes it a clear winner. Interested to hear anyone’s perspective. 21 Cringle tonight.

Enjoyed a tasty golden delicious apple, and am nearing the half way mark of this bowl of year 2018 Sutliff Dunhill Elizabethan Match in a straight smooth brown 1960s-70s BBB Own Make 506 Canadian with a sterling silver band and a tapered black vulcanite stem. Ice water and bergs is my drink. Everybody except me is snoozin'.

Did a little low calorie snacking, and am half way through this bowl of year 2012 Rolando’s Own in a smooth straight early ‘60s Lane era “William Conrad” Charatan Executive Extra Large stretch apple with diagonal channel cuts on the lower right and left of the bowl along with a black vulcanite double comfort saddle stem. Daisy the Feral Princess is snoozin' on her blanket. I fed Tomato the Brave who is snoozin' by my feet. Abner the Eager is lying on top of my chair. Harry the Hairy is eating outside. I gave him some some fresh water, and a couple ashes spilled out of my pipe into the water. Harry looked up at me with one of those "You know I'm a non-smoker looks". I dumped the water, and refreshed the bowl. Harry forgave me. :)

Since apparently HU tobaccos are available here in the USA, I jumped in for 4 tins at my local B&M. Even if they were even available online, surely they'd be sold out. Well, $204 later, and I see Smoking Pipes has quite a few of them. Well, I was able to get a tin each of Director's Cut and Fayum, which are out of stock at SP.... And a B&M that cares enough about ordering HU Tobaccos is one worth supporting.

This is HU Night Owl in a Peterson Newgrange 107. Frankly, HU was better when you needed to know a CIA agent to arrange the meet in Germany, and smuggle the tins back through several Caribbean shell companies :ROFLMAO:
