Buddy came over yesterday afternoon so we got to run through some things while catching up. First for me was some re-hydrated (thanks Boveda) PS Bullseye Flake in my Ropp Stout.

He gave me that cool stand at this hang out, it's also a pipe lighter and mini multi-tool!

I then packed some Horizons in my Bones Bent Apple as he hadn't tried it before.

He wasnt too fond of Horizons, dumped half of his bowl and moved to some Boswell blends.

I finished mine though and ran the evening out with an Alec & Bradley Blind Faith.

Good times...

Well, today is a special day for me. If my dad were still living, he would be 98 years old today. Sadly, we lost him in 2014.
I do have the old 1950's era Medico pipe that he smoked when I was just a small child. It was in pretty rough shape and broken so I had it repaired and restored a few years back. Today.... on his birthday.... I am smoking it for the very first time.
I wanted to do it just like he did so I went old school. I am smoking Sir Walter Raleigh, which is all he ever smoked and I am lighting it with matches and the "tamper" is my index finger. Assisting me in this endeavor, is a Diet Coke. Finally, I reamed it out with my pocket knife. All of these things were the methods that he used. He did have a cool pipe stand that is shown in some of the photos below. He was in the U. S. Army and one of the photos below shows him wearing a hooded, water-proof coat while crossing the Atlantic aboard a ship, near the end of WWII.
Happy Birthday, Dad..... we sure miss you.

I'm sure he's honored to be remembered in this way. Happy birthday to him, indeed! I always think of my dad every time i chew some Day's O Work plug.

One more quick bowl as i've got my pipes and cigars all packed for the day. Mycroft in a unique chunky no-name.
Then off to the BBQ and get the fire going.

Th
Beauty. Don't think I've seen this one either - but my perception is sharper than it used to be so I perhaps just missed it. Photo is new though, I think - you've covered up your Dad's car . . . . . :(

This is a type of pipe I've come to appreciate more and more especially as I've vastly improved my slow smoking techniques. . . . Lots of wood to smoke cool, and a smaller bowl to limit the length to something reasonable.

This is a beautiful pipe . . . next time you show it, can you do a from the side? l'd love to see it's silhouette shape.

Anyone else notice that the site is off the wall electronically right now? I've had posts jumbled, not posted, and otherwise popcorned for about half an hour. Once, could be me. Twice, maybe. But four times? Nope.

Only other possibility is my server . . . and that's entire possible with a government utility transmission line. . . . .

Thanks! I'll have to look into a Twiggy next pipe buying spree, probably Sept 1. Have a few new additions (yeah, I pressed the trigger on that black Mr. Brog Nosewarmer just last night  before I crashed.) Not expensive (35 bucks) but a stellar smoker and it'll be the core element of my outdoors/travel kit. Takes up so little space and is not as fragile as a cob.

Then again, we pipers can probably justify anything, eh?

Enjoyed a tasty lunch, and am near the half way mark of this bowl of year 2020 Watch City Rouxgaroux in a smooth medium bend 2021 Peterson POTY Natural 4AB No. 6/500 military mount with a silver cap and a tapered black vulcanite AB stem. Gold Star Jamaican Estate Reserve, neat, is my drink. Tomato the Brave was hungry again, so he's in and eating. Abner the Eager wanted out, and he's laying on the deck as is Daisy the Feral Princess. Dunno where Harry the Hairy is, but I know he's fed and nearby.

We had a big OktoberFest in Vancouver when I lived there up until 1974. It was a great gig - my alter ego was bass trombone, which I gigged with as much as I could. Always fun! This shot brings back memories, we did the costume thing as well . . . . hmmmm . . . what is that I see in the foreground? A Wagnerian Tuba? lol love it! Must be a gigging symphony guy in there, taking a break from Gotterdamerung!
