Did some low calorie snacking, fed all the ferals, and have passed the quarter mark of this bowl of year 2022 Watch City Blue Ridge Special in a straight smooth ebony post-WW2 LHS Sterncrest 91 bulldog with a sterling silver band, a diamond shank and a tapered black vulcanite stem.

Enjoyed a tasty golden delicious apple, finished work for the day, and this bowl of Wilke Surbrug’s Crystal Palace in a dark brown smooth straight post-WW2 LHS Certified Purex 79 bulldog with a nickel ferrule and tenon with a black vulcanite saddle stem. Fed Sleepy Suzy and Molly Danger.

Smoking 2012 Vintage Syrian in the widest bowl pipe I have, a 1920’s Barling’s. I love this pipe for certain blends. The walls are thin, but it smokes cool like anything else. It’s a smaller pipe at barely over 5 inches, yet it’s bowl is more like a group 6.IMG_1478.jpeg

Near the first third of this bowl of year 2014 Edgeworth Ready Rubbed Match in a 1984 medium bend black grain etched Savinelli Non Pareil 9310 pokerish dublin with a horn ferrule and a black vulcanite flared stem. Abner the Eager was inside snoozin', and after he woke up to eat, decided to be on top of my chair. I let Harry the Hairy in the eat, but had to put him out when he finished because Molly Danger was giving hm the stare down, and I didn't want trouble. She came to the den on her own again, so I guess the worst is over regarding that subject. Daisy the Feral Princess is eating now. Tomato the Brave's turn will happen soon.

Now smoking year 2017 Esoterica Dorchester in a straight smooth dark brown octagonal paneled mid-60s-early 70s Corporate Era Barling 4945 London England T.V.F. billiard with a square shank and black tapered square stem. This pipe is from the estate of David Cuneo. Whether or not I have another smoke before bed time depends on if I manage to finish all that I have to do while this bowl lasts. Molly Danger is roaming around the den and kitchen surveying her domain. :)

Lane Smoker’s Pride Whiskey in the best one of my three ten inch WDC Giant Wellingtons.

These were made about seventy years and then some, and the early ones like this were made of ancient, oil cured, aged, unstained, unvarnished, and unpainted French (Algerian) briar.

These and a few other brands like Marxman and Bertram’s proved Americans could make and sell the best of the best.

The WDC Wellington was made by the untold thousands on a production line. The smallest ones were only 25 cents before WW1. The ten inch Giants were as far as I know the largest size.

That metal band is not only decorative it’s functional, and keeps the end of the shank from splitting. Early ones seem to have been hallmarked Sterling silver but this example of nickel plated brass would not have tarnished, and likely was tougher.
