Lane Smoker’s Pride Whiskey in the best one of my three ten inch WDC Giant Wellingtons.
These were made about seventy years and then some, and the early ones like this were made of ancient, oil cured, aged, unstained, unvarnished, and unpainted French (Algerian) briar.
These and a few other brands like Marxman and Bertram’s proved Americans could make and sell the best of the best.
The WDC Wellington was made by the untold thousands on a production line. The smallest ones were only 25 cents before WW1. The ten inch Giants were as far as I know the largest size.
That metal band is not only decorative it’s functional, and keeps the end of the shank from splitting. Early ones seem to have been hallmarked Sterling silver but this example of nickel plated brass would not have tarnished, and likely was tougher.
