Evening smoke: a continuation of the break-in of my new Mr. Brog Nosewarmer, and Smoker's Pride Whiskey Tobacco.
Like yesterday, the 2nd break-in was surprisingly good, and even though still undertoned due to this infection infliction I'm having at present, I could taste the whiskey flavouring in the tobacco throughout. I'll do the same 2nd break-in smoke on the new Ropp J06 tomorrow, and a third on both pipes the two days following. Then, as @telescopes suggested, complete the break-in on both pipes with a dark cavendish tobacco, of which I have quite a bit on hand and am very fond of.
Further comments to the little Mr. Brog Nosewarmer, I'm now a big fan, in spite of my initial reluctance to go to one of these nosewarmer jobs. It smokes great, I love the draw, and the control of the tobacco I have in it is exceptional. I got just a few minutes less than an hour with it and on a very small amount of tobacco. I can see buying another of the same (they come in black and the light brown as shown in the pic), and a black one would be in order. I can see these being the mainstay of my travel and range pipes.
Speaking of which, more of that underneath the picture in what may be an interesting Skippable Drivel to those interested in the subject . . . and I certainly like what I heard at the range on Wednesday. See you below if interested.
Skippable Drivel:
I got some great news at the club on Wednesday during our afternoon of shooting which takes an awful lot of pressure off me. Due to the construction going on at the range, my demonstration of Field Target has been altered and moved to July, and on June 7th, I'll now be part of the Family Day for Interested Non-Members, switched to that date, a week after construction has ended.
What I'll be doing, with a bunch of other members, is bringing a selection of pistols and rifles (I'll be stationed in smallbore, of course, because I'm a director in that division) and showing/teaching the family members to shoot and handle any gun they wish at appropriate targets, both rimfire and PCP/Springer airguns. That takes a lot of pressure off me and allows me to relax my prep a lot, and will hopefully spawn a bevy of new members and families.
Then, in July, I'll be in charge of an actual FT Trial Competition, because I've already drummed up enough interest in the discipline within the club, that over a dozen current members want a full course of targets in both pistol and rifle to give it a whirl. So what I'll have to do on the designated date, probably a Sunday afternoon the 1st or 2nd Sunday in July, is to run and participate in the trial, with a 30 minute pre-instruction demo and talk. These guys are all great shooters in their own discipline, so this will be right up my alley, and my prep is pretty well done except for laying out the course design on the grounds. I'll keep ya'll posted on developments, because I'll have to give a spiel the at the Director's Meeting the first Monday evening of July. That's more than enough time for complete preparation. Time to celebrate with a cigar before crashing.
