Here I offer a story of woe, tragedy, and ultimate reconciliation with the help of a fair maiden (my wife): After dinner I loaded my Imp Sitter with the last of my 2021 Navigator Flake, looking forward to a relaxing smoke with the tail end of gentle cocktail..and Lo, my hat was missing! Of course, I wore it for the burn pile earlier today.. It wasn't in the mudroom (a Millennial term for the servants entrance i.e. me).. huh. I didn't recall putting into the back of the truck so maybe it was left at the burn... Jauntily and with all confidence, a lit my pipe and strode down to the scene of the earlier conflagration...

No joy, and I didn't really think so as I tend to not just leave things lying around... not in the truck cab, or bed... I go to look in the garage, as unlikely as that will be, and .. OH! I DROP MY PIPE!! IT BOUNCES!! All the ash and tobacco falls out!! I AM MORTIFIED!!
IMG_9294.jpg
Embarassed and utterly disgusted with myself, I pick it up... I cannot find any explicit damage...probably will explode into pieces next time a try to light it.. No, my hat isn't in the garage. @#$%&*! I report my woes to my wife and as I continue to expouse about how this is just IMPOSSIBLE, she askes, "do you mean this hat with the leather band?" There it is, in the mudroom (the far end where of course I didn't look). !!!
Words left me (and good thing, amirite? Damn right iamrite!!) So now, here I am, at last, enjoying Stampede Kek in my not yet exploded Imp Sitter with a stiff pour of Kraken to back it up if necessary. I haven't touched the rum yet, but it's there.
So endeth my tale.

Did some low calorie snacking, fed all the cats except for the absent Abner the Eager, and am half way through this bowl of Ken Byron Ventures Jim’s Special Flake 2023 in a black rusticated full bend 1984 Peterson Mark Twain military mount egg with a silver cap and tapered black vulcanite p-lip stem. Ice water and bergs is my drink. Going to clean a few pipes, check the forum, and then read baseball box scores.

I spent some time in DC and Hampton Roads with the Army and Later the Air Force myself so I understand the sentiment. I ended up in Richmond after the Gulf and stayed with an Agency here till retirement. I love DC as well and seriously considering moving there but the freedom of the country in the outskirts here and the cost have kept me from it. Milan is worth a stop and so Is Georgetown if in DC.
Thanks, Paul. Georgetown Tobacco is an amazing shop to visit (parking can be a challenge). Almost as impressive as Iwan Ries in Chicago. I've been fortunate to have visited both shops in person. Across the Potomac, in Falls Church, is Old Virginia Tobacco Seven Corners, another great shop. I've definitely got Milan earmarked for a visit during my next travel to Virginia/DC. Again, there's just so much in the DC area to thrill. I'll always try to eat at Silver Diner, Bob & Edith's, plus many of my favorite ethnic restaurants.

In light of some worrisome family news the other day, and a tragic thing that happened in the family of a former coworker of Susan’s on Thursday, I wanted to give myself a reminder—I’m having Cornell & Diehl Exclusive in my “Second Chance” pipe, a sandblasted Savinelli Autograph Fan (with a finger hole) that serves as a reminder to me of the most precious things in life—family and friends.

Almost half way through this bowl of year 2000 SWRA in a straight smooth 2024 Peterson Red Killarney 264 Canadian with metal accents around the shank and a black acrylic p-lip stem. Daisy the Feral Princess and Harry the Hairy came in to eat, and then they wanted out. Tomato the Brave and Abner the Eager were happy taking it easy outside. Sleepy Suzy is by my side. Got everything done, so I'm going to read the latest baseball news and box scores.

Enjoyed a tasty Snap Dragon apple, and am smoking year 2020 D&R VIP in a 2004 smooth long shank Trever Talbot Ligne Bretagne Faite en Bretagne 4/3 lumberman with a tapered black vulcanite stem. I went outside to see how the ferals were doing, and saw that Abner the Eager was ready to eat. I picked him up and he's eating now. The others are snoozin' outside.

Last smoke of the day is year 2018 D&R Windsail in a 2018 full bend smooth natural Peterson Sherlock Holmes Lestrade with a silver band and a black vulcanite saddle p-lip stem. Tomato the Brave was standing at the back door, so he's in and eating. Daisy the Feral Princess ate and went out before he came in.

Old Virginia is a fantastic shop.
I haven’t been to the one in Falls Church but I do frequent the one in Pentagon City and miss the now defunct location in Downtown Richmond severely. Milan has been around a long time and if you’re passing through Roanoke it’s definitely worth a stop.
