Earlier, I smoked a bowl of year 2024 Edward G. Robinson's Pipe Blend in a 2014 Basil Meadows smooth slight bend squashed tomato with an aluminum band and a black pearl acrylic stem in the military mount style.

Then, I ran a couple of errands with a bowl of year 2014 Sutliff 1849 in a medium bend smooth dark brown 1968 Corporate Era Barling 5631 London England TVF billiard silver spigot with a tapered black vulcanite stem. Been a busy day.

Well, today is a special day for me. If my dad were still living, he would be 98 years old today. Sadly, we lost him in 2014.
I do have the old 1950's era Medico pipe that he smoked when I was just a small child. It was in pretty rough shape and broken so I had it repaired and restored a few years back. Today.... on his birthday.... I am smoking it for the very first time.
I wanted to do it just like he did so I went old school. I am smoking Sir Walter Raleigh, which is all he ever smoked and I am lighting it with matches and the "tamper" is my index finger. Assisting me in this endeavor, is a Diet Coke. Finally, I reamed it out with my pocket knife. All of these things were the methods that he used. He did have a cool pipe stand that is shown in some of the photos below. He was in the U. S. Army and one of the photos below shows him wearing a hooded, water-proof coat while crossing the Atlantic aboard a ship, near the end of WWII.
Happy Birthday, Dad..... we sure miss you.

I have the same weather problem - I live at 6000+ feet, over 3000 feet higher than the "bowl area" of Prince George which is only 12 miles south and is at the confluence of the Nechako and Fraser Rivers. I'm in Zone 2, boreal forest, I think it's called, whereas PG is in Zone 4 and has a 2 month longer growing season. We have in Zone 2, only 65-70 reliable frost free days. Much of what I "harvest" is wild stuff like dandilions, vetch, and cattail. Only safe stuff in a garden, which I can no longer do. :( It is what it is. Cute little pipe btw.
Thanks. It's a good pipe for a quick 15 min smoke.
Dandelions are great eating! Some of my favorite greens are wild ones, including lambsquarters and wild spinach. And cattail! Excellent wild food! Love em. The tender, pale green shoots are delicious.
Yes, I sympathize. Digging the garden beds is getting harder, as I get older. But, as you say, it is what it is. Life is good, but way too short.

Enjoyed a tasty lunch, and have passed the quarter mark of this bowl of year 2020 Watch City Rouxgaroux in a smooth medium bend 2021 Peterson POTY Natural 4AB No. 6/500 military mount with a silver cap and a tapered black vulcanite AB stem. Gold Star Jamaican Estate Reserve, neat, is my drink. Watching Gunsmoke and getting ready to clean a few pipes.

Currently stopped at Dublin Ohio’s Tinderbox. Nice pipe selection and smoking lounge, average selection of blends, nothing special there. After stopping at five or so B&M’s in the last week and a half was hoping that there might have been. Smoking some Stokkebye Virginia bulk, it’s a hard meh, can’t recommend. The Ehrlich sits at seven bowls smoked, might become eight by the time I leave with how fast this stuff smokes.

Quick snap of my Daily Proceedings So Far: Well, most important of all in the great scheme of things, is that I spent the morning and early afternoon, on this holiday weekend in PG, going over happenings online in the world, North, South, East and West all over the world in things political, ecclesiastical and natural. Time for a media fast.

Smokewise, loaded my recently aquired mini-cob with CAO Cherrybomb, and started off tasting cherry and then diminished at the 20 minute point or so, kinda tasteless, to be expected currently from a mild aromatic. Got a full 30 minutes out of this little sucker, which qualifies it as a permanent resident in my travel set.

Early afternoon puff on a Phillies Blunt Plain was better - right now I'm having good success with something monochromatic and a bit on the strong side. Hoping for further progress in both tastebuds and the world. Expecting more success in the former, frankly. Hope your Monday continues well, and will be joining you in a Monday Meer smoke with Sunday Picnic on a Monday. Cheers.

Now smoking year 2024 KBV Mr. Christian's Haunted Virginia in a straight, black sandblasted 1980s Comoy’s Mark-2 G * 6 (4) bulldog with a black vulcanite saddle stem. Picked an easy burning blend to smoke while I clean pipes that I smoked. I got an estate pipe today that needed a light clean, and am letting it dry now.
