Just finished smoking Per G. Jensen Blender’s Collection Virginia in an undated, unbranded straight smooth dark brown made in France Los Alton VBF squashed apple with a black vulcanite saddle stem. Couldn't sleep, so I've been doing some research. Sleepy Suzy is by my side. Daisy the Feral Princess is snoozin' on her blanket.

Been crazy busy for three days, with no let up for at least two more. Currently analyzing my pistol targets and would like to chronograph velocities with my guns for field target knockdown power with the selected fodder. Will probably post that in a day or two. In the mean time, here are two brand new toys of another nature . . . .

I mentioned a couple of days ago that I gave Stu my cob, and here's the replacement. And Sobrbiker has been torturing me with visual images of a little Pete he has in some of his terrific slice of life posts, and decided I was going to buy one like it as a birthday present to myself in April. So when I picked up the cob and a few packs of cigars for Lenten festivities at Sheffield's, I noticed a small Pete on their display walls, and foolishly asked to see it. Not exactly like his, but fairly close . . . an apple bowl (I think?), sandblasted, petite and elegant but surprisingly with a medium sized bowl. I was offered a very good price because it was the demo model and the last one. A better price than I could get from down south or England. . . . . no shipping. I was about $60 bucks short and went home a bit disappointed.

So made the decision yesterday to withdraw my weekly food budget, which is about $60, got a ride downtown to Sheffields hoping that the pipe was still there. It's not. It's in the photo below.

I'll complete the story and smoking report maybe tomorrow after some paperwork and chrony analysis if I get it done before my self-imposed deadline. In the meantime, here it is by itself. The cob'll be put on the back burner for a bit.

Sounds like you got a great deal on a handsome pipe. I'm a big fan of Peterson’s rustication work. I look forward to seeing it in action here on the forums!

Last night our baby awoke at about 1am and ready to party. After a couple hours of negotiations I agreed to being kicked in the back until she finally fell back to sleep and I could move her back into her bed. As a result of my abysmal negotiation tactics, I was looking for a little extra jolt in my bowl to compliment my extra strong coffee.

Therefore, on the menu for this morning's commute was my trusty Pete loaded with C&D Billy Budd mixed with about 30% Black Irish X. Which essentially means a bowl of Black Irish X, as that was all I could taste. Although delightful, i think I may just add a dash next time when attempting to liven things up.

Hope everyone has a great Thursday ✌️

I remember those days well. I'd wake up, glance over at the wife and try to look like i was sleeping a little while longer hoping maybe she'd stir. I realized later it was really just both of us seeing who'd cave first. Try to enjoy the ride, it's not a long one - though it can feel like it when you're still in the thick of it all. ;)

Next thing you know they're 21. In a perfect world it eventually comes full circle. Case in point: my daughter got up and made me breakfast today. A rare treat.

After breakfast bowl of Samsun and Delilah in a Mehmet Cinar cherry wood.

Half way through this bowl of year 2024 Edward G. Robinson's Pipe Blend in a 2014 Basil Meadows smooth slight bend squashed tomato with an aluminum band and a black pearl acrylic stem in the military mount style. Fed my cats, and Daisy the Feral Princess. She seems to have completely recovered from her surgery which is more than I can say for my wallet. Daisy is worth every penny it took to make her well. Going to check on the other ferals after I post this smoke.

Okay here's the skinny on the Peterson. Apparently a Dublin bowl. I've shown it in the shot below next to my Ropp J16. And for a reason:

IMGP5563petersonandroppOPT.JPG

My 3 Ropp Etudiantes are about the best smoking pipes I own, I love handling them, and are the best bang for the buck on the market, imho. I used the J16 here, which I've dedicated to Mad Fiddler, as a comparison. The small Peterson "Dublin" (that's what it says on the pipe bowl bottom - 'twas a bit shallow stamped and not easy to read), is almost exactly the same length, has a slightly narrower but a bit deeper a bowl, and a slimmer and more narrow draft hole. And it costs about 2 1/2x the money of the Ropp.

Worth it? Yes and no. If it's just money and smoking quality no. If it's a different smoking quality, yes. I've just smoked it twice, and it's absolutely delightful. A bit more suited, because of the more "restricted" draw, for the slowest smoking techniques I know how to apply. Remember, this is me, and only my perception. And as there are no shipping fees, and it was a display pipe, I got it very reasonably. And I'd like to support my local shop - they are doing their best to exist in a very caustic and poisonous environment. You know the taxation drill . . . I've talked about it enough, eh?

I'll do a solo report in a few days on the little Pete after another few smokes. I'm one of those guys who let's a pipe rest a day or two until the next smoke. Got exactly enough plus a few left over, for one pipe each day for a month, depending on the month. Enough is enough methinks. 😃 cray
