A third of the way through this bowl of undated McCranies Red Flake in a straight smooth brown post-WWII Derby Natural Grain billiard (Sasieni) with a tapered black vulcanite stem. Couldn't sleep. Watching the very worst episode of The Adventures of Superman, Mr. Zero. At least actor Herb Vigran is in it. He has one line where he says about Lois Lane to Mr. Zero, "Being a lady, and not knowing any better..." Funny thing is that this line was written by a woman, Peggy Chantler.

Woke up and had a bowl of burley with my coffee, ran a mile with the dogs, and then Mrs Cosmic had breakfast waiting on me.

My first time getting around to Horizons. I don’t usually smoke latakia this early in the day, but I wanted a few bowls of it before I developed an opinion. Very interesting tobacco… I like the “cosmic” theme.

In my continued spirit for adventure I decided to a try a new (to me) tobacco. On today's menu was Black Irish X by Gawith, Hoggarth & Co loaded in my Guildhall. I've enjoyed the Brown Irish X so much I've really been looking forward to having a go at the darker stuff.

At the start of my adventure, and for a lack of better words, it tasted like how my barbecue grill smells. I got a lot of charred meat, smokiness, and an overall umami taste. Although that theme would mostly persist throughout my bowl it became very enjoyable the further down the bowl I went and became less grill like. The subtle sweetness coupled with the umami taste made it pretty umai (delicious).

It should be noted that this was my first smoke of the day and thus my confidence in my novice palate can't be fully trusted yet. Nevertheless, and comparatively speaking, I still prefer it's lesser stoved counterpart, Brown Irish X. But this blend was pretty enjoyable, for my anyways 😀

Hope you all have a great Saturday ✌️

Doing something I don't normally do this morning... smoking a brand new pipe with a tobacco ive never tried before. The pipe is a Peterson St Patrick's Day shape 608 and the tobacco is Rivertown Oak & Ember. I dig the pipe. It's a little smaller than I thought it would be, but in a good way. It's a good shape. The tobacco? Hard to tell in a new pipe, but I'm not immediately grabbed by it. It's fine, but I think I was hoping for something a little different. I already have pounds of Pegasus.
