A look what I found afternoon. First I found a tin of Peterson’s Connoisseur’s Choice under a chair where a car had knocked it, and then a cheap Chinese pipe I bought to see how bad they are. I thought I threw it away.

Let us know . . . . I have a couple of cheap Chinese pipes that are stellar, and a few that I gave away cuz they weren't. But same for wares from other countries, too, in fairness.

A third of a bowl left of KBV Jupiter Slice 7.1 in a post-1938 Pre-Republic Peterson Dublin straight smooth X155 bulldog with a sterling silver band and a tapered black vulcanite p-lip stem. Nigel Bruce smoked this model in two Sherlock Holmes movies. Please consider asking Shane Ireland at Smoking Pipes and Peterson to bring the pipe back into production.

I’m embarrassed to admit that as ugly and poorly made as it is, it was worth the $9.99 I paid on Amazon 5 or so years ago. It smokes well, surprisingly, and has a good seal between shank and tenon, despite having a stinger and the lines of stem and shank not meeting perfectly on the outside.

And I did buy one worse once, believe it or not, looking for the ugliest cheap pipe in the world as a gag. I didn’t trust what the wood was, as it wasn’t briar, didn’t look like olive or pear, and I was sure they wouldn’t give me oak or hickory. It was painted silver and red, and I didn’t even trust the paint to be lead free. I know I chucked that one in the trash, but wished I’d kept it unsmoked, just for fun. It was hilarious to look at.

The Chinese have such truly incredible pipe artisans, they have to be annoyed to death at those things. The Chinese many times don’t make nice things, but they CAN. Optics is but one type of product that is becoming inexpensive premium, at the top end. Motorcycle engines for the name manufacturers is another. And there’s one Chinese motorcycle company that now makes good bikes. So no way am I ragging on Chinese ability.

Last night our baby awoke at about 1am and ready to party. After a couple hours of negotiations I agreed to being kicked in the back until she finally fell back to sleep and I could move her back into her bed. As a result of my abysmal negotiation tactics, I was looking for a little extra jolt in my bowl to compliment my extra strong coffee.

Therefore, on the menu for this morning's commute was my trusty Pete loaded with C&D Billy Budd mixed with about 30% Black Irish X. Which essentially means a bowl of Black Irish X, as that was all I could taste. Although delightful, i think I may just add a dash next time when attempting to liven things up.

Hope everyone has a great Thursday ✌️
