A quarter of the way through this bowl of year 2017 Esoterica Dorchester in a straight smooth dark brown octagonal paneled mid-60s-early 70s Corporate Era Barling 4945 London England T.V.F. billiard with a square shank and black tapered square stem. This pipe is from the estate of David Cuneo. Started cleaning on a big Barling estate pipe of David's (I know what I'll smoke in that one), and I have three drying. Hope they'll be clean or mostly clean. I've been doing heavy duty work. Going to clean the ones I smoked today after this is posted.

Was all too happy to take a break from all these heavy chores around the ranch today, but just as happy to cap the day with a first-time try of Erik Stokkebye Evening Flake in a Stefano Rhodesian. Not bad...like PSLNF's younger brother, I would say. 8/10

Bird report: White-crowned sparrow, Dark-eyed junco, House finch, California towhee, California scrub-jay, Steller's jay, American crow, Band-tailed pigeon, Western bluebird, Northern flicker, Mountain chickadee, Hairy woodpecker, Chipping sparrow, American robin, Blue-grey gnatcatcher, and White-breasted nuthatch.

Chicken soup tonight with the remains of yesterday's bird. Nothing goes unused here...there's very little in this world I abhor more than food waste.

Evening Flake is a fav of mine. I do put it slightly above PS LNF, which I also like.

Enjoyed a tasty golden delicious apple, and have passed the half way mark of this bowl of year 2013 Capstan Gold Flake in a straight smooth brown Algerian briar post-WW2-mid 50s family era Barling’s Make Ye Olde Wood Special Made in England squat dublin with a tapered black ebonite stem. This pipe is from the estate of David Cuneo. When I have a chance, I'll see if I can find a way to take a lighter picture of this pipe to show off the bird's eye. When a pipe is this dark - and I'm a lousy photographer - I dunno what my chances are, but I'll try. Couldn't post before now because Tomato the Brave came in to eat, and then laid on my lap until now.

Prior post was indeed a one-pipe problem, now resolved. Celebrating with 2019 Salty Dogs in the Paykoc Brandy Glass Lattice Meer with a first time try of Four Roses.

p.s. I wasn't quite sure what this shape might be called so emailed Paykoc with a couple questions and received a quick reply from Altan Paykoc: "I would call that style a lattice brandy glass. I am honestly unsure on the carver, I have purchased soo many in that range its hard to track. I love this pipe, its comfortable to use and you can usually set them down mid smoke."

A Heavenly Smoke, Part 1

26 Mar 2025a.jpg
Today I managed to squirrel away enough time to smoke two half bowls up in my back yard tree house. In the Kaywoodie (1950s model 33 - Large Apple) I had my modified version of Three Nuns. In the Dr. Grabow (1960s model 65 - Zulu) I had my modified version of Three Friars. Both were excellent, honestly, a heavenly experience.

I only had enough time to smoke through a half bowl of each, so hopefully tomorrow I can finish them both and provide a Part 2 update.
