C&D White Burley in my #1 cob.
I discovered after my last smoke in this pipe, that it was overdue for some cleaning. A salt-and-Everclear treatment resulted in some very dark brown salt, and it still reeked after drying. (Had the alcohol extracted and activated some tar that had gone dormant?) At least a half-dozen Everclear-soaked fluffy pipe cleaners came out of the shank brown next. After drying from that, it finally started to smell like a clean pipe.
So when I loaded it up with some straight blending burley, I figured I'd be getting a pretty true taste. It was mild and generally pleasant, but I still got cigar notes along the way. Perhaps that's just my only other reference for unflavored air-cured leaf?
I persist with this tobacco because I'm trying to familiarize myself with the inherent flavors of all the varieties that go into the blends I enjoy, but I could go for a palate cleanser right now. When I want cigar flavors, I'm happy to smoke a cigar!
