Esoterica Tilbury, Virginia with burley as a condiment, in a Iwan Ries house pipe Canadian, with a smooth finish on Algerian oil cured briar, sourced from Edwards Benton brand. I have three of these pipes, the Canadian, a billiard, both with good big chambers, and an Oom-Paul pocket pipe, nicely made and durable, and good-looking after many years. Tilbury is an elegant blend, sent to me by SBC ... thank you again. Virginia/burley blends tend to be good to me anyway, but this one is stellar.

Started and finished a bowl of TCS Old Toby in my new Hungarian but it took a long time this morning and later this afternoon. A 20mmx50mm chamber is a lot of tobacco slow sipped ... easily over 2 hours for me.
I will have to start with 1/2 bowls now that it is broken in. Still the coolest driest smoking pipe I have had so far after my French made Algerian briar sitter ... but that's another thread !! ;)

Sutliff ERR Match in a cob.

I started coming down with a cold about a week ago. Once I couldn't taste what I was smoking, I figured I might as well stop until I could again. It's a yearly event for me, so I just wait for it to pass. After a few days, my sense of taste (as far as food and drink) came back normally. But when I attempted to resume a bowl of Peterson Flake, it just smelled godawful every time I retrohaled it. Like I was trying to smoke river mud or something! Although I tested negative for that one thing, I still worried that perhaps my sense of smell would be forever altered this time around. Thankfully, today's bowl of ERR Match tasted and smelled fairly normal, if a bit muted. Here's hoping things get completely back to normal soon -- I really missed smoking all of my blends!

Sutliff Anomalous in a Penn Valley Gouda Clay.

The tin note after sitting for a while gives raisins, citrus and lemon. Upon lighting and smoking for while, the predominant flavor is raisins. The Red Virginia follows up as a secondary one after the initial draw. Has sweet, full mouthfeel.

There is a nutty, full bass note from the Burley and Cavendish. At about the halfway point I’m noticing a sharp spicy note. I’m just lazily smoking this, not really trying to pick out any nuances.

I will say that it was worth the effort to grab some if this as it is very unusual - a very pleasant smoke…

I like what you said here, got me excited about Anomalous, and I just ordered a tin from Iwan Ries. 👍

Can’t wait to try it. :)
