DR. PLUMB REACEMAKER ENGLAND with Peacemaker Bulldog bowl (Rustic Burgundy)
+ Samuel Gawith BRACKEN FLAKE
The Dr. Plumb Peacemaker was cast in the south of England and has a removable vulcanite stem with an absorbent paper filter ring under the bowl.
Metal shanked pipes with interchangeable bowls have been popular since the 1930s/1940s as unlike conventional briar pipes these hybrid pipes were cheaper to make and could stretch the use of briar much further. During WWII briar was very difficult to source because it came from the coast of the Mediterranean. With the success of the American Falcon pipes, the Dr. Plumb/GBD factory started looking into their own metal bodied pipes.
Working off the same principle as the Falcon - the aluminium body acting like a car radiator cooling the smoke - with a chamber beneath the bowl that collected the condensed moisture and a paper filter which absorbed it keeping it away from the tobacco and the smoker.
The Peacemaker pipes were first released to selected retailer in the UK in the late 1950s after a lengthy dispute with Falcon Pipes.
