Dan, do you have to have a specific weight of tobacco in the pipe for the Fast Pipe Competition?Bonfired a clay pipe of Clan in 48.24s!
Love it! And brought this old classic to mindThe wife and I went and watched the National Reined Cow Horse Association’s Western Derby to check out bloodlines we may breed into Gracie.
I snuck in a couple short bowls of Irish Flake on the J11P without getting in trouble.View attachment 314699
Not me. With your encouragement, I took nearly a full tin worth. I then brought in May (forgot you were fishing on vacation) half a tin of Old Gowrie for you. But underneath, I added a "surprise" blend to make the tin almost full, separated with a piece of paper. Confident you'll savor the "surprise". Will bring to June meeting. The Brown Clunee is nice, has been enjoyable.Earlier today, some old Brown Clunee in the DM. Real nice, this stuff has held up well. Of course, I jarred it shortly after Ted Vig opened the tin for me, must've been April? Maybe March... I told the pipe club guys to take a bunch but they took only little pinches, so it lingers...
That is one beautiful pipe. Do Vesz’s pipes really smoke cooler and sweeter than others as he says?Next up is a Canadian Julius Vesz 3/4 bent egg with a diamond shank and saddle stem

Sounds like a good pipe to me if it checks all those boxes except passing a cleaner. I have no idea about the dead root briar he speaks of though.Thank you.
I bought that as an estate, just because I loved the look of the pipe.
Hangs well and smokes very well, though I’m not aware of any magical “sap”
Does not pass a cleaner.
But I’m OK with that as I have a few Petersons with the same affliction
No, my sense of taste is not so developed that I can discern nuances in briar from different regions or if they are air vs kiln dried or oil-curedSounds like a good pipe to me if it checks all those boxes except passing a cleaner. I have no idea about the dead root briar he speaks of though.
@Scottmi It says in the video it's the same amount of tobacco in every pipe:Dan, do you have to have a specific weight of tobacco in the pipe for the Fast Pipe Competition?
@dad-o-nine Nice pipe; I've never had a black one!Yep, fairly utilitarian, but it smokes!View attachment 314700
