Absolutely! I've used pipe cleaners & Q-tips dipped in (Canadian) whiskey (whisky) to clean pipes for years. The stems, the shanks, the bowls all turn out fine. Couple pipe club members have said they just use bare pipe cleaners, but I encourage them to try whiskey .... or brandy, or rum. The alcohol seems to work like a solvent, plus whiskey (my preference) just adds its own "magic". I've read there are some who use Everclear. No doubt it'd work fine, but it's expensive & can be hard to find.McConnell highgate in my j05. Evening lunt. This pipe smoked sour so I cleaned it out using some whiskey. Problem SOLVED!
