Almost half way through this bowl of year 2012 St. James Flake in a straight 1968 Dunhill Tanshell octagonal paneled EK F/T billiard with a square shank and tapered black vulcanite stem. Had a fun Zoom as always, and am relaxing with Sleepy Suzy by my side.

Been gifted a long clay pipe today; smoked some more Gawith Hoggarth Seasonal Reserve in my clay today.
Sent Jamie some more pipe weed and giving the pubs and pipes a rest until June 26th when I go to the Georgian Weekend at Cromford Mill.
Still got 2 tins of pipe tobacco; I'm saving them until re-enactment starts again later this year.
Looking into taking part in Live Action Role-play in Derbyshire when the pandemic is over.
I feel it's the beginning of the end of the Covid19 pandemic now that vaccination is well under way but the new variants seem more localised and should be contained within those areas.
The highest levels seem to be in areas with a large Chinese and Indian population.
I think China has progressed a lot in some ways but not at all in others, including health and hygiene.
My dad said he used to go to a Chinese takeaway and could never tell what the meat ? was...

I am smoking some 16 year old Marlin Flake and I’m so impressed.

Years ago, I smoked MF and put away some tins. Back in the day, MF was considered a straight VA. Then I got tired of the taste, esp the cavendish. I found HOTW more to my liking.

Lately, I’ve been exploring VAPers and pulled out a tin of MF from 2005. The cavendish taste is gone, or muted. The perique is mellow. And the red VA matured beautifully.

That is one tobacco that benefits from age more than about any other. Enjoy!

Long before the Cold War and the contemporaneous rash of sci-fi movies in the 1950s and 1960s revealing the obsession with invasion by hostile aliens in flying saucers and the Space Race leading to the first man on the moon in 1969 - looks to me to be the inspiration for the 1960s Italian made Jet Set flying saucer pipe - there's this M.F
(M. Friedlander / Montague Friedlander & Co.) pipe from the early 20th century:-

Enjoyed a tasty navel orange, and am a quarter of the way through this bowl of Granger in an undated straight smooth medium brown 1970s Comoy’s Tradition 110B billiard with a tapered black vulcanite stem.

I see your problem. You want an earthier, deeper, spicier flavor than you can get from Dunbar, which doesn't have nearly as much darker Virginia or perique. Dorchester, which has more perique than Dunbar, doesn't have the Virginias you prefer either. If you have any dark Va. and perique handy, you could mix in a little of each, and see if that gives you a better smoking experience.
Picked up some Dorchester. I'd say it is a fine smoke. Very happy with it. The tin note is exceptional.
