Thank you. That's my favorite pipe. I hope someday I will get the smooth version of that 249.Beautiful Barling. From bit to bowl they had a beautiful line.
@Severus I was given a pipeful once to smoke in my clay pipe, I thought it would be something like Clan...Again MacBaren’s Scottish Mixture but this time in Molina billiard. Still trying to figure out why so many people rave about this tobacco.

That is one tobacco that benefits from age more than about any other. Enjoy!I am smoking some 16 year old Marlin Flake and I’m so impressed.
Years ago, I smoked MF and put away some tins. Back in the day, MF was considered a straight VA. Then I got tired of the taste, esp the cavendish. I found HOTW more to my liking.
Lately, I’ve been exploring VAPers and pulled out a tin of MF from 2005. The cavendish taste is gone, or muted. The perique is mellow. And the red VA matured beautifully.

Great tobacco and a beautiful pipe!Esoterica Penzance in a Sasieni Eight-Dot “Amesbury”.
Picked up some Dorchester. I'd say it is a fine smoke. Very happy with it. The tin note is exceptional.I see your problem. You want an earthier, deeper, spicier flavor than you can get from Dunbar, which doesn't have nearly as much darker Virginia or perique. Dorchester, which has more perique than Dunbar, doesn't have the Virginias you prefer either. If you have any dark Va. and perique handy, you could mix in a little of each, and see if that gives you a better smoking experience.
