A quiet and uneventful Saturday. I thought I would put these two ancient meerschaum 'cutty' pocket pipes through their paces with a chunk of Cannon Plug. One has its original amber stem and the other is a well smoked example acquired in the South of Ireland many moons ago. It probably had an amber stem that was replaced with a Vulcanite stem sometime in the 1940s since the stem is threaded. The silver band was added by Briarville about seven years ago to cure a hairline crack in the shank.

Beautiful pipe. I have an MLC in my collection. Did you have the stem replaced or did you get it that way?
Thanks. It came that way. Probably had an amber stem of some sort originally. It fits in the case and I like Bakelite, so no complaints.
OJK in an 1897-98 Irish Silver pipe. The stamp is an antique font and mostly worn away so I can’t read it.

Part of the Furniture Now
Well, it's 2:23 Pacific Time and I just had my afternoon smoke. At the inspiration of our own FurCoat, I remembered that I do have one corncob, that I bought for display. So I just smoked it. I will be buying others 😃. Won't take long to break in this fella! Might need to build up a residue on the acrylic stem, which I tasted throughout, but my own simple English fared well in the baptism. Thanks, FC!

Gonna take a break for a day or two. Too much breaking in of pipes and my tongue and lips are taking a bit of a beating. Back to Pirate Kake for an evening smoke if I have one, and a cigar or two. Smoking a pipe and this kind of thing have a distinct similarity with developing callouses on your fingertips as a violinist, or guitarist. Takes time.

Passing the first third of this bowl of year 2013 Stonehaven in a straight black sandblasted 1957 Barling Exel 249 Fossil T.V.F. black billiard with a silver banded military mount and a black ebonite tapered stem. Running low on this bag, but I have a great replacement for it when I finish it.
