After dinner a bowl of dried Sutliff Sweet Virginia in the Vauen Olaf bent egg. It still takes a few seconds to fully light during which I got a bit of tongue bite. Once the ember calmed down a bit I first tasted
something like Oriental, then a strong pine scent like pine nuts or Polo cologne for a few minutes then it mellowed to something closer to Virginia tobacco. The ember sits on top above the tobacco like a marble and if I tipped the pipe it would have fallen out. It does burn hot though and I may try it in a thicker pipe tomorrow. English black tea with milk and a chilled banana afterwards.

I've passed the quarter mark of this bowl of Wilke Lizzie Blood Virginia in a straight black with burgundy undertone sandblasted early 1960s Lane era Charatan 420 billiard with a tapered black vulcanite stem. Watching an episode of Nature on PBS with Sleepy Suzy by my side.

Passing the first third of this bowl of Ken Byron Ventures Jim’s Special Flake 2023 in a straight smooth brown 1920s-30s (Comoy’s) Corinthian Sutliff San Francisco London Made 36 dublin with a tapered black vulcanite stem. Much better photo of the pipe this time.
