I’m glad you got the Gold Coast set—it’s nice knowing it went to the appreciative home of a fellow forum member. With the savings on the Lee set (based on what you didn’t bid), I was considering popping in a bid on the Gold Coast set; the nick on the bowl helped me rationalize not bidding, especially, on an unknown quantity, having never smoked any Pipes by Lee.

I’m getting into the second half of the Pembroke in the now smoked “unsmoked” pipe—it’s smoking cool and sweet, and draws better than some pipes I have with a stinger, but, I wouldn’t say it’s appreciably different than many other pipes. I’m glad I have it, but, I’m not hearing angels sing and trumpet as our Country Lawyer would have us believe.
LOL. And you won’t. For me, the Lees make sense in that I enjoy older American made factory pipes. I just have an appreciation for them. They are also sturdy little buggers and can take quite a knocking around. Hence why I keep them in my condo where I know things will get a rougher treatment and I won’t be upset too much if one walks away.

1/2 bowl of 30 + yr old Denby's Tobacco Barrel Country Gentleman in a Barontini 1/2 spigot pipe while running an errand (Lottery Ticket) and then finishing in the yard. There is a screech owl in the pine on the hillside trilling away but I can never see them ! They are about 8-9 inches and bullet/missile shaped but their camouflage is so good they are almost impossible to see or find even if they are right in front of you. The downside of silent flight feathers is that they can't fly in the rain so he's stuck for awhile until he dries out.

Well, the Battle of the Plumcakes is on! Last night, it was Germain's, tonight it is Mac Baren. I'm using the same pipe for continuity.

Truth be told, the only similarity in these blends is the name. The Germain's is a light sweet shag with some tasty wine notes. The Mac Baren is a rough cut, with some extra twigs and such, it's significantly less fruity, and has some good spiciness to it. It has a quality that reminds me a little of the Solent Mixture...not super close, but reminiscent for sure! View attachment 157698
I appreciate the MacB blend analysis. I have a tin of Plumcake and Solent Mixture chillin' in the cellar indefinitely. I'll keep this in mind for that glorious day when it's go time. Thanks! ?

Relaxing after a wonderful salad, wild caught catfish and green beans dinner with strawberries for dessert. I'm closing in on the half way mark on this bowl of year 2022 Astley’s No. 109 Medium Flake in a straight black 1963 Dunhill LBS Shell 4S billiard with a tapered black vulcanite stem. Ice water and bergs is my drink. Watching Station West starring Dick Powell.

Well, it's either going to be 2019 Dunbar which I've smoked quite a bit of recently or Bayou Morning Flake, which I haven't tried but really think I should. I've only got 3 tins of it and since I've heard great things about it, I think I need to smoke some and see if I should add some more. Sound like a plan? Which one sounds good to you?
Dunbar is a favorite that I reach for often, and I have a jar that I can easily put my hands on.…..but I don’t have Bayou Morning Flake, and I need to revisit the ribbon that I have jarred, but the thought of digging through all those jars to find it, gives me a migraine.?

I‘ve actually laid out some Anthology to take for a spin tomorrow. Enjoy the Flake, it sounds like you’re itching to try it.

Cheers, brother!
