Part way through this bowl of Smoker’s Pride Mellow Taste in the very first pipe I ever bought ($2.49) in 1974; a smooth three quarter bend Dr. Grabow Omega military mount with a nickel band and a black vulcanite stem with a p-lip. Just finished a set of walking reps. The clouds in the sky made it a little more bearable than usual.

Where NY, CT & MA meet
2015 MB HH Pure Virginia in a very early Viprati calabash shape from 2000. Drink is a mojito on this balmy 4th of July.

This is one of my favorite pipes, maybe my 4th? My wife bought it for me on the sly. She saw me admire it as we were looking to purchase a second pipe (Peterson Emerald 999). She surprised me two different times based off that visit to Barclay Rex in Manhattan. A Tim West large long stem Dublin/billiard, which was my 3rd pipe, and this amazing Viprati. Only markings are L Viprati and Hand Made Italy. I was obsessed with calabash shaped pipes when I first started. Both of the Vipratis I own are very early.

I've been smoking through a tin of Mac Baren Plumcake, and I'm enjoying it after learning the very hard way that it needs to be bone dry and packed very loose. I've been using a Savinelli 311 poker exclusively since the second bowl I had from the tin. This is a really excellent blend: it's sweet with a little latakia smokiness in the back, plus an enjoyable rum spice that pops up regularly. There's plenty of depth to explore, but it's also enjoyable to sit back and enjoy the unity of flavors. I think that this one would be rated much better if reviewers hadn't struggled as much with tongue bit. I've had no problem when it's dried well and packed loose.

 I was thinking about selling mine. Then I smoked another bowl of the open tin I have and completely changed my mind. It's the kind of thing you sell and then regret doing forever.
I agree...
