Smoked my
Ropp 350 estate pipe with a few fixups a while ago. Loaded it with
Pirate Kake for which I had dedicated it. I'd mentioned yesterday that I'd split the business end with a pipe cleaner, and that the regular rubber mouthpiece didn't seal the hole properly so was ineffective. So I used carefully cut and wrapped electricians' tape to seal the breach, and the draw was fine. But I know that chomping and slobbering on that tape was only going to be temporary, and was investigating other suggested options. Then the thought hit me to put the rubber training device
overtop of the tape. Works like a charm and the smoke was fine. I'll use it like this until I have to do a more serious repair.
However, one further problem developed. I bought a half dozen tins of Pirate Kake about four or five months ago during the initial honeymoon, and before I got nailed duty wise and had to exercise restraint in south of the border ordering. Well, the PK honeymoon seems to be over at this point.. I kinda find it boring now - I like being hit over the head and PK doesn't do that. It's a balm for the tongue. It's also, like any other full lat, messy in the cleanup. So I'm going to burn up all of that slag and with a burly based codger like Smoker's Pride Whiskey or Classic, and probably stick to codgers when I smoke this pipe. The Ropp has a very large bowl for a Ropp, and sucking on 75% lat for an hour doesn't intrigue me right now. Smaller pipe, probably my McQueen Ash Russet, will be the ticket for the times I overdo it and need to rest the chops.
