Down to the cellar I go again. This time for some 2016 GL Pease Embarcadero. I have smoked this one before, but it was so long ago I forgot what it was. I smoked it in a Sasieni Four Dot “Warwick”.
The tin note was strong. It smelled like Latakia, though I don’t think the blend contains any. Strange. Smoking this, I definitely get red Virginia, deep, woody, dark roast coffee with a dash of spice. The Izmir would poke its head up frequently as I smoked through the bowl, adding a musty, sometimes sour note. I found this to be a very interesting blend that I think I will re-visit from time to time. IMG_0805.jpeg

I often forget about Embarcadero, but it’s great stuff

Starting off my smoking day with a bowl of pre-2014 Edward G. Robinson's Pipe Blend in a 2014 Basil Meadows smooth slight bend squashed tomato with an aluminum band and a black pearl acrylic stem in the military mount style. Fed all the ferals while m'lady fed our cats. Ice water and bergs is my drink.

Revisiting Haunted Bookshop, which I really didn’t like when I tried it when I first started. SPcom put an ounce in a recent order, so what the heck…
Breaking in the new Ropp J07 smooth, which seems to want to gurgle a bit-might need a little work.

Horse hocks are crappy areas to try to keep bandaged, in case you didn’t know.

Awesome unusual pipe and blast looks great!
Thank you. I had been looking at it and was unsure. SP hit me with the 15 off sale so I pulled the trigger. SP described it as a bent Dublin/hawkbill. It’s pretty lightweight and clenches well. The bowl remains visible in clench and is easy to relight. Smokes great too. I’m happy I took the bait!

Part of the Furniture Now
Been ridiculously busy, and hernia problems have kept me less mobile than normal. However, things are back to normal, whatever that is, eh?

Been doing a project smoke wise, with my nifty cigarette machine, making my own cigarillos with pipe tobacco, and comparing the results with smoking the tobacco itself in a miniature dedicated pipes so I can compare the cigar/pipe taste. Then, I compared my own homemade cigarillos with a bunch of commercial cigarillos. The pictures below should be self explanatory.

So in effect, for my three morning, afternoon and evening smokes, I've basically over the past week or so, smoked a miniature and a cigarillo from a bunch of tobaccos. Results under the pics.

Oh yeah . . . forgot to mention my little New Years gift to myself - a JD cigarette case to house my stash in, featuring my drink of choice in the old days.

Notable results:

The best homerolly jobs were made with ribbon cut tobaccos. They tasted very much like the tobacco when smoked in a pipe - you can tell. I had several friends compare the tobaccos in the homerollies with a pipe of the same, always pipe first, then the cigarillo. and they were in agreement.

We also compared, over the holidays, the home rollies with commercial little cigar offerings. Verdict? We like 'em all but having your favourite pipe tobacco available in cigarillo form was the preference of most, myself included. But I'll buy the occasional pack of my favourite commercial product, too. This is not a replacement thing but augmentation. Like another pipe, eh?

So here's the verdict:
OUTSTANDING, and I'll make these again anytime

SIR WALTER RALEIGH
BORKUM RIFF DARK
SMOKERS PRIDE WHISKEY TOBACCO
SMOKERS PRIDE CLASSIC BLEND
CAPTAIN BLACK CHERRY CAVENDISH
Interestingly enough, Capt Black Cherry wins the taste race in comparison with commercial products. The best flavoured tobacco we've tried, beating all commercial products in our preference.

Others as a change of pace will be made. Hope a few of you try this system out. You'll be surprised.
