Trying out Five Brothers for the first time, in a Morgan Bones Milan.

20240712111619_IMG_6525~2.JPG

Based on everything I had heard about Five Brothers I was expecting it to be foul tasting and harsh, but that doesn't seem to be the case at all. It's very mild, nutty, and woody tasting with a just slightly sour edge and a softly peppery aftertaste, but it's shockingly smooth and doesn't bother my sinuses at all on the retrohale (unlike Cornell & Diehl's burleys which just tear my sinuses a new one). I actually really like the flavor and smoothness of this blend!

The nicotine content is... well, staggering. Thankfully I'm no stranger to high nicotine blends and am a regular enjoyer of 1792 Flake and Coniston Cut Plug, so I can definitely handle what Five Brothers is offering, but for the uninitiated I wouldn't recommend smoking this one for more than 10 or 15 minutes if you don't want to end up on the bathroom floor. It's some profoundly strong stuff!

Yet, it's also profoundly tasty and definitely one of the smoothest unadulterated Burleys I've ever smoked. I'm surprised to say I actually really like Five Brothers quite a lot! I think it'll be bedtime for me after I finish this pipe, but tomorrow morning I'll try mixing in a pinch of Five Brothers with my usual morning RLP-6 to give it a little kick. I think it should work out pretty darn well! puffy

Relaxing after a wonderful salad, chicken legs and sugar snap peas dinner with strawberries for dessert. I'm close to finishing this bowl of year 2018 Sutliff Dunhill Elizabethan Match in a 1982 smooth straight Dunhill Root Briar 31051 dublin with a tapered black vulcanite stem. Community Coffee, neat, is my drink.

Close to finishing this bowl of year 2013 Rotary Navy Cut in a post-1938 Pre-Republic Peterson Dublin straight smooth X155 bulldog with a sterling silver band and a tapered black vulcanite p-lip stem. Nigel Bruce smoked this model in two Sherlock Holmes movies. Please consider asking Shane Ireland at Smoking Pipes and Peterson to bring the pipe back into production. Have enough left for most of a bowl.
