Sunset Smoke of Amphora Kentucky in a Savinelli 111KS. I cant believe I passed on this tobacco so many times only to be interested in it now after basically my first smoke of it. It never ends. Why are they taking this off the market?View attachment 371979Bunch of Philistines.
Hadn't heard about Kentucky being taken off the market. Do you know (or anyone else?) the fate of Amphora Rich? It's one of my favourites . . . Bunch of Phillistines is right!

Kentucky was on my list of tobaccos to try because I can get it from Canadian native sources.

Full day of ranch work today; fortunately, a little warmer than it has been recently, perhaps 60 degrees in the sun. PSLNF in a Stefano rhodesian. Very tired, but lots of progress already for this early in the season. 8/10

Bird report: Dark-eyed junco, White-crowned sparrow, California towhee, House finch, American crow, Red-tailed hawk, California scrub-jay, Steller's jay, Northern flicker, Hairy woodpecker, Spotted towhee, American robin, and California quail.

I expect to see at least several hundred of you at my IPSD pipe zoom on Thursday. If I hyped it up any more than I have been for the past month and change, I'd be too depleted to attend myself. ;)

Love your bird reports. I've only a couple of crows in my immediate vicinity, who have a habit of nesting in my fir trees outside. About 15 years ago I had Ravens nest, as well. Love crows and ravens; probably why I don't get more variety. Oh yeah, the occasional grouse, too.

But my sister feeds hers a couple of miles away, and I get the local report from her. I especially like Nuthatches, but even she hasn't seen too many around lately. I get Flickers often in the late spring, and they love to bore for insect grubs in my cedar siding. Drives me nuts.

I'll get a feeder set up one day and put a long lens on my Pentax K3. Been meaning to do that for some time.

After a hearty dinner (1 1/4lb rib eye steak and a 1/2 bottle of Brunello di Montalcino) it's time for an appropriately full-bodied smoke: Kendal Dark in an H Ege hammer.

You've got magnificent taste my friend. It doesn't get much better than a ribeye with Brunello followed by a good smoke.

IMG_6349.jpegMore exclusive in the Tekin. We sure about 50% perique in this one? I’m loving this stuff but I’m not getting 50% perique. I’m getting more like 25%-30% in what I’m tasting. It tastes like it has about as much perique as bayou morning, which is 25% perique. Regardless, it’s fantastic and I’ll finish this 2 oz sample quickly.

It's been a double extra busy evening. Earlier, I smoked a bowl of year 2019 C&D Derringer in a smooth brown-orange undated Mastro de Paya 3A L Tulip with a silver cap military mount and an acrylic yellow tapered stem.

Next was a bowl of year 2012 Dunhill Royal Yacht in a 1970s smooth brown slight bend GBD International 9665 dublin rough top sitter with a flat bottom and a black vulcanite saddle stem.

Then, I smoked a bowl of year 2014 FVF in a straight smooth dark brown 1896 W.H. Newman, Ltd. billiard with a sterling silver band and a tapered yellow and orange stem with white swirls and an orific bit.

After that, I had a bowl of year 2012 Rolando’s Own in a smooth straight early ‘60s Lane era “William Conrad” Charatan Executive Extra Large stretch apple with diagonal channel cuts on the lower right and left of the bowl along with a black vulcanite double comfort saddle stem.

Currently, I'm half way through this bowl of year 2012 Dan Tobacco Treasures of Ireland: Limerick in a straight smooth dark brown year 1912 Hall & Fitzgerald cased HFB billiard with a tapered black vulcanite stem and orific bit.

Enjoyed a tasty golden delicious apple, and have passed the quarter mark of this bowl of year 2014 Edgeworth Ready Rubbed Match in a 2002 smooth top, black sandblasted quarter bend military mount Karl Erik Ekstravagant horn with a horn insert in the ferrule and black acrylic stem. Fed my cats, and all the ferals except for the absent Abner the Eager.

Now smoking year 2018 Sutliff Walnut Match in a 1990s smooth brown medium bend briar calabash shaped Butz-Choquin Maitre Pipier JR Fait Main with a horn ferrule and a black vulcanite stem. Sleepy Suzy is by my side. Molly Danger is with m'lady. Except for Abner the Eager, all the ferals are inside out of the cold. Snow is expected in a few hours.
