You wouldn't want a smack across the teeth with that, either. A thing of beauty and a joy forever :) Never seen a kiseru with a fat shank like that before: would it be a period style? And what is the capacity of the bowl?

The diameter of the chamber is quite small, about 9.53 mm wide (or 3/8"). I’m really not sure if this is a period style; this one piece metal style shows up so infrequently, there’s very little info to be found (at least online). Most antique kiseru I see are from the late Edo or Meiji periods, and are three piece pipes with bamboo and much thinner. Because this is made from cast iron and simpler, I suspect it’s older (as is the plain version with no decoration that I have). My brother, Tim, has a lot of books related to samurai swords, et al.—I will see if I can find anything in his library.

Hoping to get through most of these by tonight.

So long as you mean the pipes and not the jars! Otherwise, perhaps a skosh ambitious... 😁

As for me, i keep my goals moderate and well within reach. 1 bowl at a time!

Currently firing up some HU Eddie G in an IMP and then off to hunt down some lunch.

Haunted Bookshop in my little black rusticated basket pipe. HB was my first burley blend and is still my favorite. I remember the first time I smoked it in 2019. I was floored and a little appalled at how strong and "tobacco-y" it was. Then, it just clicked on the second bowl. Just the right level of burley nuttiness and a touch of spice just make it perfect. One of my desert island blends.

Morning all. Looks like we have a few morning storms about in the hills today and definitely feeling like Autumn that's for sure, mornings are damn cool. Smoking Ennerdale in a Pete 301 and I have to say that Gawith's saucing department has punched their time card back in and are on the job as this batch is very nicely sauced, lets hope its not just a slip with the watering can.

After some messy, rainy, muddy days, it was time to bathe the horse. Since all I had to do was hold the halter and keep him still, I figured aromatherapy would assist nicely, by way of Drew Estate Harvest On Hudson in a Savinelli Mattone 614 faux-Hungarian. Worked like a charm. 8/10

Bird report: Dark-eyed junco, White-crowned sparrow, California towhee, California scrub-jay, Steller's jay, House finch, American crow, Red-tailed hawk, and Western bluebird.

I hope some new smokers see this^^^^ post. It has a couple important points to know. First, to many of us, at least, without further clarification, if someone just says something tastes like tobacco, that means Burley. Many grew up around it. Some of us raised it.

And second, if you’re trying a totally new kind of blend for the very first time, even if you think it’s horrible the first time, try it again after a few days. You may turn out to love it. It’s especially common with Latakia addicts to have hated their first bowl.

Still Sutliff 507-C in the Vauen Olaf bent egg ... but its going to 14F degrees and there is an arctic 'West Wind" blowing tonight and sub-zero temps are expected. Still smoking outside though ... for now ,,,

Wind from the West, fish bite the best.
Wind from the East, fish bite the least.

Wind from the North, do not go forth.
Wind from the South blows bait in their mouth.

So, gotta ask. 8/10 on the Drew Estate blend? Or on washing the horse? Inquiring equestrians wanna know.
