Relaxing after a wonderful salad, chicken legs and sugar snap peas dinner with a scoop of Triopolitan ice cream for dessert. I'm just finishing this bowl of Sept. 2015 Savinelli Doblone d’Oro in a smooth straight early ‘60s Lane era “William Conrad” Charatan Executive Extra Large stretch apple with diagonal channel cuts on the lower right and left of the bowl along with a black vulcanite double comfort saddle stem. Been enjoying a long chat with my old college room mate. Ice water and bergs is my drink.

I have a little conundrum. I won this 1886 Charles Maas pipe set the other day when the person who outbid me by a fair amount couldn’t pay. Recherche means excellence, the finest choice, even obscure depending on the context so these pipes must be among the best produced by Maas. Anyway it turns out that “carefully smoked” meant not smoked at all and I don’t know if I should use them. It almost feels like I’d be desecrating something beautiful. I’d appreciate your opinions please because all I do at the moment is stare at them. View attachment 65065View attachment 65066View attachment 65067View attachment 65066
I have quite a few pipes that I only stare at. Nothing wrong with that.

I have the shorter-stemmed version of this pipe in briar and it is a dream to smoke. How do you like the morta? I really do wish they made their hanging egg shape in morta, that would take all of my moneys.

I snagged a couple of tins before these were hunted out of existence, but I'll have to wait a few years for things to mellow down before I can enjoy it. Sampled a little when I was jarring them up and man do they pack a punch!

To celebrate my new laptop and the amazing keyboard it has, I'm contemplating posting a longer thread on my attempts to curate my collection into a couple of refined 7-day sets, instead of the aimless mass of abandoned flings.

One that will stay in the collection... For now?!? This lovely Tsuge Ikebana I've dubbed the "Lionfish" - burning a bowl of C&D Carolina Red Flake w/ Perique

Never had the original release in 2016 but the 2017 batch of Carolina Red Flake was outstanding at the time and has aged wonderfully. I can't say the same about the 2019/2020 releases, even the addition of "18-year-old Louisiana perique" hasn't done much to help it.

I really like the Devil Anse Long pipes. I have one in briar, one in Morta and they are good Smokers no doubt. The honest truth is the regular size Devil Anse Morta, is in my opinion, the best of all their pipes I have. I prefer it anyway, just easy all around and is an awesome little pipe.
The Rustica is pretty damn good now, I use it to bump up nicotine intake usually in a smaller pipe. Being that I’ve almost kicked cigarettes, the Rustica in a small pipe fills that gap And helps keep me from smoking a cigarette.
‘I’m a pretty big fan of C&D Carolina Red Flake and also The Perique addition. I think they will really shine down the road, after some time. I believe Briarworks/Moonshine are starting to do other pipes in morta, so who knows maybe they will?
