Enjoyed a tasty River Crisp apple, and passing the first third of this bowl of year 2014 Dan Tobacco Hamborger Veermaster in a smooth straight brown 1950 Dunhill 48 bulldog group 4 root briar with a black vulcanite fish tail saddle stem. Watching a Johnny Mack Brown Western.

How’s the 23? My friend who was flying to NYC every week for work was laid off. I have no mule now. Asking my local B&M to bring some in as I’m not getting to the States for at least a couple months.

It is very good. That said, it is very different than prior Cringles. The 2003 perique from Mark Ryan that has appeared in several other blends over the last 4 years (and to great effect across the board) is here but to my taste it seems like a much smaller percentage vs prior Cringles. The stoved Katarini is nice but it strikes me as a substitute or stand in for the lower perique content. The biggest difference though is the level (not content) of casing. It’s approaching C&D levels, or lack thereof. This Cringle is much dryer than previous versions and unlike those previous versions this one can be a bit rough. It is tasty, but definitely a departure.

No. I took about 1.5 in a ziplock bag, added a 20-25 drops, and started smoking it immediately. When it was wet it was a little more Orange like, but when it dried just added a subtle depth to the tobacco.

That time of week has arrived and it’s time to watch UFC Fight Night. Going to have Cornell & Diehl Small Batch Folklore (2022, 805/1000) in an unbranded, unmarked, Magnum-sized Swan Neck LC (Large Curve) with a horn stem with an orific bit; this pipe is most likely French in origin, and may be from the late 19th or early 20th Century—it is curve drilled, has a bone tenon, and a cork mortise.

About to smoke my first morta pipe (a Mr. Brog 112 that arrived from Poland on Friday). I’ve decided to inaugurate it with a familiar blend: Peterson Nightcap. I plan to smoke it back to back with a favorite briar (a Rossi 8320 I bought from the Pipe Nook).

Very interested to see whether and how the morta differs from the briar.

Peretti Yuletide 2022 in the Briarworks Blasted 10th Anniversary Zulu, with decaf. The chocolate, fruit and mint have carried through nicely over the year!
