Hey Jim ,,is the larger container the Edward G Robinson comes in good enough to store for a period of ,time?
Oh, yes. It'll do even better if you gently lift the plastic seal, take what you want, keep tobacco off the rim, and firmly replace the seal before putting the lid back on. Those tubs will keep the tobacco fresh for years. You may have noticed I've been smoking circa year 2000 EGR these days. I take some out, put in a regular EGR tin, and keep the tub sealed until I need more. The tobacco is fresh and moist as the day it was manufactured.

You can do this with the H&H Mid-Town series blends, too.

Now smoking year 2014 HU Directors Cut in a smooth straight Lane era Charatan Executive Extra Large stretch apple with diagonal channel cuts on the lower right and left of the bowl along with a black vulcanite double comfort saddle stem. This pipe was formerly owned by actor William Conrad. Chatting with the fella who gifted me the pipe.

In this case, the older vintage lost a touch of the topping even though it came from a new opened 1970s tub. As often happens with old burley, there's a spice note that can nip at the tongue a mite if you're a very fast puffer. With moderate puffing, I still notice it. Aged burley also gets woody and a little savory, and in this case that has happened. I will say the topping is still richer than the current version.

A couple of years back, I opened a pouch of late 1960s PA. It had a deeper flavor than either the new or the current aged production I am smoking. And, surprisingly enough, no spice, no savoriness, but it was a tad woodier than what you'd get today. I imagine age did that.
Thank you, Jim; I appreciate the personalized review. - Sherm Natman
