***What Are You Smoking, August 2025?***

After a long siege of HOT weather it was delightfully cool this morning. Accordingly, I enjoyed a bowl of Leavitt & Peirce Cake Box mixture in an estate Sasieni Two Dot briar Liverpool (Shape 29) in the garage as I watched the sunrise. Hot black coffee made the perfect accompaniment.

Yeah yeah yeah, my wife’s asking why the HVAC guy can’t get here til Sunday to see why we can’t cool below 84 inside…always during a July or August heatwave.

Oh well, having some Sutliff 515-RC1 with the last of my lunchbox tin of Dark Moor mixed in.

Yeah it never happens when it’s nice out. Swamp cooler, heat pump or split system? Last time mine went out it was an 8 yr old Heat Pump and the indoor coil went so replaced everything at that point.
Fingers crossed for you that it’s just a start capacitor , leak or a contact failing.

Happy August to everyone!
It is much cooler today and overcast. Many got storms when the cool front came through, but it missed us. We could have used the rain, but I'll take the cooler temps and be happy.

Trying some new things with a new month.

Thanks to the influence of many (especially @MortarMessiah ) I picked up some C&D Low Country, Pee Dee. When I opened it, the tin note was heavy with a rich chocolate aroma, but I only found the first smoke to have a fraction of chocolate. I did get some molasses and a bit of sweetness from the Virginias but the burleys brought some nutty, bread flavors. Of course, the perique did provide some spicy nips.

It was moist when I first opened it and the first third of the bowl started a little bit of gurgling, but by the halfway point that was gone. Very nice smoke.

I brought out my new Roush Poker to try this in and lit it up with my Zippo and used my .45-70 shell tamper.
Had a Diet Coke to drink.

The horses are grazing and enjoying the cooler temps and the dogs are working on their morning "chews."

A nice way to start the month of August.....

Nice cool morning, picked the wrong day to limit to 6 bowls some random pipe thoughts:
Just finished reaming this little Herbaugh apple, now loaded with Chenet’s cake. The third in this set is being shipped to me today, the largest capacity so far, really excited to have a first long smoke!

If you’ve never tried a Bakelite stem, I recommend it, it’s a little stiffer than ebonite but still quite comfy, oxidizes slower, and looks great, sort of translucent.

No matter what I do, clean with paper towel, pipe cleaners, etc, I always wind up with too much cake and have to ream, including a photo of a finished job. It scares me to do it but it seems to be working out ok.

And the freshly, finished Pot!
