Unexpectedly home today after finding our main water line from the meter had broken sometime yesterday. Should be fully repaired this afternoon.

No fun but it could be in worse places!

Sitting out on the patio having a nice cool noon time smoke of 2015 Dunhill There Year Matured in an amazing Roush Pot.
Grateful every day…

This is my first post on the forum in several years. I have been tied up in working on the road for several years and fell off the map. I’m now back home, and looking forward to being a little more involved in the future.

My first smoke of August is Low Country Pee Dee in a bent Falcon with a very nice Meerschaum bowl and a cup of coffee. An older stock image of the pipe. IMG_7147.jpeg

I enjoyed a tall stack of cinnamon raisin French toast, a big peach, and unsalted peanuts. I followed that up with a big bowl of cheddar topped chili and cantaloupe for lunch. Then I smoked a bowl of year 2020 Watch City Rouxgaroux in a smooth medium bend 2021 Peterson POTY Natural 4AB No. 6/500 military mount with a silver cap and a tapered black vulcanite AB stem.

Currently I'm close to finishing this bowl of year 2010 Amphora Original (Brown) in a full bend barley sandblast Peterson 125th Anniversary 1898-2023 No. 172/330 302 brandy military mount with a silver band and a black vulcanite p-lip saddle stem. The last of this bag of Gold Star Yemen Mocha High Grown, neat, is my drink. Been busy chatting with neighbors about Abner the Eager.

Just finished smoking year 2012 Dunhill Royal Yacht in a 1970s smooth brown slight bend GBD International 9665 dublin rough top sitter with a flat bottom and a black vulcanite saddle stem. M'lady and I went out to check a few leads. If the one neighbor who is a couple of blocks away is right, then Abner the Eager was there a few days ago. The problem is that in this immediate area, there is more than one black cat. The one distinction that Abner has over most of the others is that he never opens his eyes very wide. We saw two black cats, but they weren't Abner.

Today's Smoke: Exercising some much needed discipline. No pipe or cigar, yesterday, just chew. Today, chew but had an opportunity to go into town with Mike who needed to pick up some parts (he's an electronics repairman who has the contract for almost all of the gyms in the region, at which he repairs their always abused electronic exercise equipment.) So, after doing his thing, we went to the park, watched the ducks and river, and I broke my fast with a Home Rollie, the best one I've ever concocted, a mixture of Pirate Kake 6 parts, and Smoker's Pride Whiskey, 2 parts, for the Vitamin N component missing from an English (?) consisting of about 80% lat and probably Virginia.

The mix was outstanding. This one is a keeper. Some mixing observations in Skippable Drivel below the pic. A chew of SWR followed while watching the ducks eat slugs. Man, do they gobble them up! Reminds me of myself when let loose at a Chinese Sechuan Smorgasbord.

Skippable Drivel:
This Top-O-Matic machine with pure hemp paper tubes stuffed with pipe tobacco is a wondrous device. I stuff the filter into a used Colts' Cigarillo tip. Much more like smoking a pipe, way better control. Usually get about 20 minutes from one of these jobs. The tubes take about the same amount of tobacco as a pipsqueek pipe, so that makes perfect sense, to me, anyway.

I find a lot of English tobaccos short on Burley, and now routinely add a couple of parts of Smoker's Pride Whiskey English to them for a much more satisfying smoke. Whiskey burns fairly hot and quickly, but when added in this manner has minimal misbehaviour. This mix of Pirate Kake and Sw Pride is, at this point, the best tasting rollie I've made so far.

Close rivals are plain SWR, and and a mix of 3 parts SWR and 4 or 5 parts of about any Dark Cavendish you have on hand. I'd also add that my Skragg tailings are usually up there as well.

If you're aching all over for a new toy, I'd really suggest one of these marvellous Top-O-Matic machines. Very sturdy and rugged, and produce very a very useable quickie. Very economical device to boot. Back to the pipe fast for another day or two. The dreaded tongue bite is now in remission.
