Now smoking year 2020 Pfeifen Huber Virginia Golden Flake in a 1938 smooth straight brown patent Dunhill R 115 bowling ball apple with a tapered cumberland stem. Sleepy Suzy has been very attentive today, and has been by my side for hours, except when she eats. Molly Danger is on m'lady's lap. Tomato the Brave was gone for a few hours, and for the first time that I can remember (except for rain storms), he totally missed his wet food feeding. I just saw that he was outside, and now he's inside eating. The others are outside.

The pipe is of course very beautiful and elegant👍🏻, but my God, how do you clean the channel😱?
With surprising ease, actually. If i have a hard time getting a cleaner through a pipe it doesn't stay in my collection for years. This thing is a burley champ, easy to clean (counter-intuitively) and has just enough girth around the bowl to keep it nice and cool. I wasn't actually a huge fan of the shape until i smoked it. But over the years it's certainly won me over. ;)

Back home to the beloved smoke lounge after a long day. Almost 2 hours heading north in medium traffic and 3 hours coming home in much worse. Glad it's over. Time for a pipe.

Old Joe in another Armellini (military bit).

Enjoyed a tasty golden delicious apple, and am a quarter of the way through this bowl of aged Rattrays Hal O’ The Wynd in a straight smooth brown pre-WWII (Comoy’s) Corinthian De-Luxe 126 pot made for Sutliff in San Francisco with a black tapered vulcanite stem. Watching the Padres-Dodgers game with Sleepy Suzy snoozin' by my side. Tomato the Brave ate well and often, and then spent the next fifteen-twenty minutes getting head, ear and back scratches from yours truly. When he had enough, Tomato walked off, and came back walking on my feet as a signal for more attention. He did that three times. Then he went to the kitchen to eat again, came back, stood on my feet and wanted a head scratch. Then he went to lay down on a blanket for a few minutes before he went back to the kitchen to nibble. Right now, he's fighting the blanket that he was lying on.

I like to make my own "Home Blended VaPers", also. Currently, I'm using McClelland Virginia Woods with C&D's Granulated Perique. I'm planning on a "red version", like you've done, but will use some McClelland '06 Christmas Cheer with either the Granulated Perique or some McClelland Blending Perique. I'll usually do around 20-25% Perique. I've also done "gold versions", using Mac Baren Virginia #1.
Of course, there's nothing wrong with the "store bought VaPers" either. Got some aged tins awaiting in the cellar.
NOTE: HAVE to add that I LOVE that Lovat ... actually, all Lovats (!!!).
That is very cool, I think I will have to try another variety, like your “gold” VaPer. I like blending at home, I’m just not that good yet so I’m sticking with what I know so I don’t waste time and money. I do have a heated hydraulic press, however, and I intend to try making some red VaPer cake to continue playing around. I haven’t yet gone as high as you with perique content, but I am still young in my blending experiments. I appreciate that you’ve shared this! And thank you, I also love all lovats.

Good morning! I’m a little slow today. Surgeon opened me up yesterday. Repacking and dressing changes for a couple of weeks. Then, back to see if anymore has to come out. No cycling. Guess I’ll catch up on pipe maintenance. NOT! Coffee, burley, cob.

PS: Brown Recluse Spiders are not friendly. They leave a lasting impression.

Oh man what a drag. Wishing you well and a recovery that is as easy as is possible, surgery sucks.

Morning Smoke: Well, I've finally caught up to today in my posting timeline, but I'm going to recycle yesterday's picture of the travel kit #1, because I used the contents of it this morning. Out came the Straight Falcon with the Bantam Bowl, it got stuffed with the Brigham (Mr. B's) English Mix in the upper left corner, I sat down at my picnic table with Dave and Mike, and proceeded to have the best smoke I'd had in months.

Everything worked, and even my tastebuds were responding well to the oriental component in the tobacco. Not full bore, yet, but enough to make my day. . . . . I tasted more variety in the tobacco than I'd experienced in months. . . . . .

Skippable Whining: . . . . . . . . which was subsequently ruined by the kicking in of my new prescription for the bladder infection which is still present, and this little condiment will be with me for another week. There's still 3 more weeks of post-operative Tamsulosin, a stabilizing drug for abdominal surgery. That's the one that kills the buds - the new one for the infection just makes me dizzy, tired, irritable and queezy. But all this will pass.

I also fine tuned my kit, eliminating pipe cleaners, Q-tips, etc. electing instead to clean the pipes at home upon return. Too much disposable cleaning stuff in the kit, once used, messes things up so taking this stuff out left enough room to put the pipes in a small bag. Seems to work better, and I've got better things to do in the field than clean pipes.

The other thing that ruined my day is checking out my apples. They have to be picked and processed now, so Dave and my fishing outing has to wait until this is done; he's okay with that cuz he's fine tuning his Weiraugh 97 with new pellets that seem to perform better at long range. 3 days of picking, freezing and making jelly. Bumper (bummer?) crop. Gord want's to play.

PS: oh yeah, Mr B's English Mix is one excellent tobacco. If you like English with a kick and an oriental component, give this one a try. It's climbing to the top of my lat heap.

The other good news is that no prostate issues were revealed by the latest round of tests. Just that the bladder infection was not yet cleared up so another 5 day cycle of antibiotics.
