Another bowl of 23 cringle flake in my Peterson system spigot rusticated 304 to start the day this morning IMG_6752.jpeg
And then in the afternoon, Nutty Irishman in my Peterson emerald rusticated 106IMG_6753.jpeg
Exhausting day. And it put a lot in my mind to rumble around in there over the weekend. Oh well, it’s a busy life, what am I gonna do, not keep up? It’s a blessing. Headed to Tennessee Sunday, no time for fun but I do enjoy being in Memphis, and it should be a very educational trip for me, work-wise. Have a good night, all y’all out there TobaccoLand.

Morning Smoke: Well, I've finally caught up to today in my posting timeline, but I'm going to recycle yesterday's picture of the travel kit #1, because I used the contents of it this morning. Out came the Straight Falcon with the Bantam Bowl, it got stuffed with the Brigham (Mr. B's) English Mix in the upper left corner, I sat down at my picnic table with Dave and Mike, and proceeded to have the best smoke I'd had in months.

Everything worked, and even my tastebuds were responding well to the oriental component in the tobacco. Not full bore, yet, but enough to make my day. . . . . I tasted more variety in the tobacco than I'd experienced in months. . . . . .

Skippable Whining: . . . . . . . . which was subsequently ruined by the kicking in of my new prescription for the bladder infection which is still present, and this little condiment will be with me for another week. There's still 3 more weeks of post-operative Tamsulosin, a stabilizing drug for abdominal surgery. That's the one that kills the buds - the new one for the infection just makes me dizzy, tired, bitchy and queezy. But all this will pass.

I also fine tuned my kit, eliminating pipe cleaners, Q-tips, etc. electing instead to clean the pipes at home upon return. Too much disposable cleaning stuff in the kit, once used, messes things up so taking this stuff out left enough room to put the pipes in a small bag. Seems to work better, and I've got better things to do in the field than clean pipes.

The other thing that ruined my day is checking out my apples. They have to be picked and processed now, so Dave and my fishing outing has to wait until this is done; he's okay with that cuz he's fine tuning his Weiraugh 97 with new pellets that seem to perform better at long range. 3 days of picking, freezing and making jelly. Bumper (bummer?) crop. Gord want's to play.

PS: oh yeah, Mr B's English Mix is one excellent tobacco. If you like English with a kick and an oriental component, give this one a try. It's climbing to the top of my lat heap.

The other good news is that no prostate issues were revealed by the latest round of tests. Just that the bladder infection was not yet cleared up so another 5 day cycle of antibiotics.
@gord I'm glad you "recycled" that pic of your travel kit, because it reminded me to say, what a great looking kit! Are those film canisters? I love it -- great idea to neatly carry several options. Also, I'm glad you had at least a quick, but clearly fleeting, respite from the tastebud issues. That's an overall bummer.

That Mr. B's English Mix sure sounds interesting. Good luck with the apples. 🍎🍏

Haven't been posting my smokes as much, earlier this week I had some Sun Bear and Haunted Bookshop.

Tonight on my drive to my gig I had a perfectly packed Rattray Fachen Billiard full of more Haunted Bookshop and it smoked down to the perfect ash as I pulled up to the venue.

On the way back from the gig I packed some Billy Budd in a Savinelli Siena 320 and I'm sitting in my yard finishing it out. Made some decent scratch playing our songs and some other folks' too. Not bad for a Friday.

Now smoking year 2014 Edgeworth Ready Rubbed Match in a very much appreciated 1979 brown, slight bend grain etched flat front Stanwell Rego 969-48 (09) with a black vulcanite saddle stem. Tomato the Brave went out. As soon as he did, Molly Danger started crying out to me. I thought she wanted attention, but she had wet food on her mind, and didn't want to move off the chair. I fed her and she's snoozin' now. Sleepy Suzy is snoozin' on the couch.

I think it would qualify as a bamboo Lovat with the saddle stem.
Thanks! Yup ... that was "my bad" to overlook the saddle stem. For a moment, I was going to quibble with you a bit, thinking it was actually a bamboo Lumberman. But ... (BUT) ... since the bamboo is round, not oval, it's definitely a bamboo Lovat. Since I've seen on here a "short Canadian", then this easily qualifies as a "long Lovat". NOTE: Lovats really have my admiration. Again, I appreciate your clarification. Hmm, I'd really love to have this pipe (!!!).

Did a little low calorie snacking, and am almost half way through this bowl of Watch City Jim’s Golden Ticket in a straight smooth brown mid-late 60s Corporate Era Barling 5579 London England (made by Charatan) lumberman with a black vulcanite double comfort stem. This pipe is from the estate of David Cuneo. No photo of this pipe tonight because some of my photos weren't transferred from my old lap top. That'll be taken care of this afternoon. Tomato the Brave and Harry the Hairy wanted in to eat. I tried to get Daisy the Feral Princess to come in, but she wouldn't budge from her chair so I left her alone. Before I let Frick and Frack in, I took Molly Danger to the bedroom so she wouldn't freak out over those two boneheads. Tomato ate, and then plopped down in the middle of the kitchen near the door to intimidate Harry from eating. After a couple minutes of the stare off, I picked Harry up and took him to the food bowls. Tomato wasn't happy about that and walked off, but not so far that he couldn't keep an eye on Harry. When Harry came to the den, he had the "pounce look" in his eyes, and Tomato was planning his next move when I got between them. Tomato wanted out, so I let him go. Sleepy Suzy showed the most brains. She looked up, saw the goofballs, and went back to sleep.

Now smoking KBV Verge Engine Santa Drive 2023 in a 1978 Peterson Deluxe 20S medium bend smooth dark brown billiard with a silver cap military mount black vulcanite saddle p-lip stem. Been watching the Orioles-Astros game. Since Daisy the Feral Princess hadn't been in today, I went out and brought her in to eat. She ate well, but she hair balled it up, and immediately wanted out.

Lovats are a favourite shape of mine as well. This one reminds me of something Scottie Piersel would make.

It definitely does not have a metal tube going through the bamboo, which is my preference.

If bamboo shanks can be considered more round, I don't know if they could be oval unless they happen to grow that way. I've never seen one. I'm not sure how they bend the bamboo in those full bents, but it is harder to me to see how it could be made oval to achieve the Canadian or Lumberman shapes. Maybe it could be done. I saw some strange shaped vegetables on display at the local fall fair today.

With surprising ease, actually. If i have a hard time getting a cleaner through a pipe it doesn't stay in my collection for years. This thing is a burley champ, easy to clean (counter-intuitively) and has just enough girth around the bowl to keep it nice and cool. I wasn't actually a huge fan of the shape until i smoked it. But over the years it's certainly won me over. ;)

Back home to the beloved smoke lounge after a long day. Almost 2 hours heading north in medium traffic and 3 hours coming home in much worse. Glad it's over. Time for a pipe.

Old Joe in another Armellini (military bit).
