Yeah, it hits home in more ways than one. I just watched the front street footage a min ago on the news. Horrible and just devastating
For the residents and the entire area. Im afraid this will be a Katrina sized widespread disaster taking years to recover from. They remain in my thoughts and prayers.
I’m sitting here with my AC going, hanging out here, life as usual in my area, but holy crap, 30 minutes away, a war zone.
I’m still trying to wrap my head around it, and for the fact I lived there, had a life over there, knew many people there, so many wonderful memories.
Truly Lahaina for my wife and first daughter, is in us.
We lived next to Front Street, I also had different jobs working on Front Street, and I was boat captain and crew that worked out of the Lahaina harbor for two different boat companies.
After all this, and we moved away, of course we’d still go over to the West Side on occasion, especially when relatives came to the island to visit, then we’d go play tourist in Lahaina.
We were there a few months ago, I mentioned before, this daughter still over there living in Kaanapali. Oh she said, she was thinking to go back to her old job, well, nope, that burnt to the ground.
They’re trying to sell their house in Kaanapali, they bought a house in North Carolina, I hope it sells soon.
P.S. I’m retired, just waiting on the Mrs. to retire soon. I believe this is life telling us it’s time to move too, since being here since 91, I’m ready for a change.
