It's not just a great smoker, but it has a lot of meaning to me. I wanted a William Conrad Charatan for over thirty years, and never found one. One of my best friends, who's a forum member here, knew that and gave it to me in Jan. of 2016. Then, the next year, he gave me the other Conrad pipe that he owned. They are precious not just because of my long desire for a Conrad Charatan, but also because they were presents from my friend. There's no value you can possibly place on the confluence of those circumstances that led to me owning them. Not many people have friends as generous, considerate and thoughtful as I do.
Thank you for the reply. You are a luminary and a standout In the pipe community. Thank you

McClelland 5105 in a cob. This is a jet black stove Virginia. Primarily used as a mixer for many house English blends back in the day. Can be smoked straight, I kind of like it. Mild and very sweet. I have several mason jars of this and an apothecary jar full in the man cave. When McClelland shut down, I found a couple of pounds of this in a few B&M's. Decided to load up a cob and give it a go. It's quite dry. Enjoying the sweetness, it is indeed quite mild. I had a relatively fresh cob by my recliner, that's why I am smoking it. Too lazy to get up. LOL

Late night smoke before I turn in: '16 Dunhill Elizabethan Mixture in my Nate King meerschaum prince. This blend rarely disappoints.

Another blend of mine, this time a va/ky/per. A nice and rich, stout blend. Spicy perique kicks off the bowl with the creamy, fruity Virginia's taking the lead as things smooth, Kentucky adds a little smoky nuttyness underneath it all.

-75% black stoved Virginia
-10% stoved Kentucky with maple syrup and bourbon
-20% perique

Flake and ribbon mix(I added the ribbon cause I was tweaking the blend) through a medium size clay tavern pipe.

I'd like to I ask you guys in The States a question about one of your corncob pipes that I'm thinking of buying but I'm a bit put off by what looks like a burn mark around the centre of the shank.
Is this normal and if it is what's the reason for it?

Thanking you for any assistance in this matter.
I was watching an old rerun of Carson tonight from 1977, and Gregory Peck was a guest. He came out clenching a McArthur cob, and gave one to Johnny. He had just finished filming the movie McArthur.

Peck also mentioned that McArthur rarely smoked the iconic corncob, basically just using it as a prop for photos.
