Sutliff may be gone, but thankfully HU has made it to our shores. I received some generous HU tobaccos along with a few others from our good friend, Mark, @LotusEater. Today, our dear friend @Manawydan came over to the house for a smoke and we opened up this tin. I am happy to report that we found the smoke to be creamy, tasty, and well worth the smoke. I can't wait to try the other tins - I already opened up Tillerman for my second smoke and found it to be equally satisfying. Again, thank you to Mark and Richard, who also left me with some generous samplings and tins of tobacco.

Life is good. But it is always made better when enjoyed with a pipe and pipe smoking friends.

Yeah, that would do it. I'd love to have tried Carter Hall but it wasn't available to me. My original mix was 7:3 Captain Black Dark, and Captain Black Cherry. Pretty close to the original proportions. The Captain Black Dark is pure cavendish, and would be a bit smoother than the Carter which is mostly burley, and that would probably burn a bit quicker, but it'll still make a nice mix. Thanks for giving it a shot!

WHOOPS!! I made an attempt to edit your post, but was too late. Moral of the story is that you should never, never, try to remember a formula by memory. If you don't catch this, I'll PM you in the morning.

My original formula to soften the Captain Black Cherry was 7 parts SIR WALTER RALEIGH and 3 Parts Captain Black Cherry Cavendish. Not Captain Black Dark. My apologies.

The Captain Black Dark was added to my chopped up Grape CIgar mixes. So your Carter Hall would be about perfect for the mix. In fact, as I said above, I wanted to try it. Very similar to SWR, being almost all burley. And this is a guy who has performed the Beethoven Violin Concerto twice in public from memory, no less, and it's 45 minutes long. YIKES.

Hope others weren't mislead either. Uhhhhh . . . . . :rolleyes:cray That's the way the rookie stumbles. :poop:

Just finished smoking year 2012 St. James Flake in a straight smooth brown Algerian briar post-WW2-early 50s family era Barling’s Make Ye Olde Wood T.V.F. Made in England EL billiard with a tapered black ebonite stem. This pipe is from the estate of David Cuneo. Ice water and bergs is my drink. Did a second load of dishes just now as m'lady had baked cakes for a group to which she belongs. Did a little estate pipe cleaning, too.

I fed all the cats except for the absent Abner the Eager. Tomato the Brave came inside on his own when I called him, and he ate some. He immediately wanted back out, didn't want any attention, and Harry the Hairy being near didn't help. They have co-existed at times uneasily, but I'm still not certain that Harry is all the problem here. We'll see how tomorrow goes.

A quarter of the way through this bowl of year 2020 D&R VIP in a 2004 smooth long shank Trever Talbot Ligne Bretagne Faite en Bretagne 4/3 lumberman with a tapered black vulcanite stem. Have two estate pipes drying, and am to work on one that's been S&A, and do bowl scrubbing on it and another one that I got out most of the carbon.

Enjoyed a tasty golden delicious apple, and am smoking first production Watch City American Cut Plug Mixture in a smooth medium bend terracotta Peterson POY 2023 X160 464/1100 military mount egg with a silver cap and a tapered black vulcanite AB stem. Taking it easy for a few minutes with Sleepy Suzy by my side, That girl has the loudest motor. The only cat louder than her is Tomato the Brave when he snores.

Gawith Hoggarth Kendal Mixed in a Falcon Extra with a Bantam Dublin bowl tonight.

As a lover of dark fired Virginia flavor but not always having the nicotine tolerance to puff down a pipe of Kendal Dark or 1792 Flake, Kendal Mixed scratches a very particular itch. It's got the rich fireplace smokey charred wood flavor of the dark fired Virginias in Kendal Dark, but in Kendal Mixed they've been tempered and mellowed by cutting the dark fired leaf with a relatively equal portion of what seems to be a mix of hay-like bright and bready stoved Virginias.

The result is a blend satisfies the craving for dark fired flavor, but without the strong nicotine punch that usually accompanies it. There is still a good bit of Vitamin N in Kendal Mixed, but it's more of a medium strength amount that I find much better suited for all day anytime smoking. It's not quite as rich in the dark fired flavor department as Kendal Dark, but it's still darn tasty and the reduced nicotine content has led to me smoking Kendal Mixed quite often as of late! puffy

About a quarter of a bowl left from a freshly opened bag of year 2014 Edgeworth Ready Rubbed Match in a late '80s, early 90s small bend medium brown smooth, unbranded Nording pot with a couple of small rusticated spots, an amber colored acrylic ferrule and tapered stem in the military mount style. I don't know what was really bothering Tomato the Brave, but when I looked out the back door window, he was laying on the doormat. I let him, he ate his biggest meal of the day, and while he was not quite up to his level of affectionate expression, I did entice him to play with a catnip sock m'lady made. He played a bit, and then wanted back out. At least I know that he's healthy.
