Rare double post for this busy time, but forced into inactive mode for a few days because of a swelled up hernia. It'll go down in a day or so . . . . has happened before. But these things never get better, and I have an appointment with the specialist on this Tuesday upcoming, and I'll schedule surgery at that time. Six month minimum waiting list, at which point it'll be cancelled and another one three months after that rescheduled. Welcome to the vaunted Canadian Medical System.

In the mean time, another smoking post. Buddy Stu presented me a few days ago with generous samples of three pipe tobaccos (plastic baggies of a couple of large bowls) of Moontrance, Mr B's English Mix, and Cult Blood Moon.
Having to face the fact that I'm an experimenter, I took two of my miniature pipes that were genre dedicated, and have now done the Whiskey tobacco cleanout with them, and have designated them as test pipes. I think given the lack of experience I have with a wide range of tobaccos, this is not a bad idea. If I want to smoke a bigger bowl, "Uncle Henry" is, as my main travel pipe and Jack of All Trades, certainly up to his task.
Here's my comments on these tobaccos.
Cult Blood Moon: heard a lot about this one, and was looking forward to trying it. After two miniature bowls, I wondered what all the fuss was about. I can see Mikey liking this one as he soaks up aromatics like a sponge, but I found it just okay and lacking excitement, at least for my tastes. Wouldn't buy it, but wouldn't turn it down and would smokie it, if somebody gave me a tin.
Moontrance: Liked this one quite a bit more. Nice flavour and medium strength at best, but couldn't detect all of the flavours present to the extent that I'd have liked. Would buy the occasional tin of this one if I could find it for a reasonable price.
Mr. B' English Mix: Now, this one's right up my alley, and as I'd already mentioned a few days ago, I went to our local outfit, Sheffield's, and bought a pouch that came to a tax-in total of $93 bucks, sacrificing my grocery budget for two weeks to get it. And I'll do it again when I run low. As before has pretty much the same profile as Bengal Slices, one of my favourites, (Cyprian Lat, selected Orientals and Virginias) and is a great backup to Bengal of which I have three tins. And English Mix is a great tobacco in its own right.
The selected pipes test pipes pictured below are the McQueen Miniature Barrel Rider (briar) and the McQueen Miniature Prospector (cherrywood, to take advantage of cherrywoods unique ability to smoke aros beautifully while still handling Englishes just fine thank you very much!) Doesn't handle heat as well as briar, though, which imho is still the best wood for pipes.
So until at least Wednesday, my range warden day, I'll be sitting around my house wasting time. TTYL
