C&D Stratfordshire, a full-bodied English with burley, in a Mogen Johansen "Johs" blast Canadian with a smooth-finished "band." Mogen is famous for working extremely fast and churning out volumes of pipes that keeps the prices pleasantly low. I bought my first pipe for the price, but have bought five or six more because they're great smokers. As for the blends, C&D knows just what to do with burley in an English blend to give the smoke a rich complexity.

Second bowl today, living large, Peterson Royal Yacht in a MM/Dagner poker nose-warmer, a classic blend in a compact little cob special edition with a short acrylic stem. I sure am glad Peterson picked up some of the well-loved Dunhill blends, after many thought they were gone forever. I kept tilting at windmills and insisting the tobacco business wasn't going to leave money on the table with established blends like these. A number of old favorites are in fact gone, but at least top sellers are back in essentially the same form as the last produced under the Dunhill name. I'm no business major, but I do pilfer the business section and hand the rest of her paper (her subscription) over to my wife and catch it later. In that way, I develop a minor business sense. One of my rare predictions that came true.
