I'm a big fan of the HBO Series, "The Wire", because it was so well written, by Baltimore Sun news reporters. I live an hour from Baltimore (Murdermore), so I watched these stories unfold.
Last month, the book "Life Sentence" was released which chronicles the rise and fall of one of Baltimore's deadliest gang leaders (at the age of 16) starting in 2016, nearly 20 years after The Wire aired.
It is a pretty frightening look at the urban reality that unfolds a mile or two away from Ravens stadium, Camden Yards, the Inner Harbor tourist destination, etc.

Oh yes...plenty. But if you're really interested in his work on this subject I'd highly recommend starting with his previous book to this one, which lays the groundwork:
