For Kottan and others who may not be aware of the origin of the Santana piece, here is Babatunde Olatunji, from his first LP, 1960, Drums of Passion (it was the album that helped popularize African music in America), performing Jin-Go-Lo-Ba

Saw them live in prehistoric times. After an extended riff they had to ask Ian Anderson to return to the stage. Lord knows where he had gotten to. But it was a great evening.

I realy didn't know that. Though I myself try to find original versions. In the late 60s/early 70s I still thought the song a band played was also written/composed by the band. Nowadays I sometimes joke Eric Clapton (whom I admire) is the world's best cover guitarist.

I saw willie Dixon playing 'Spoonful' on his upright bass in a concert but unfortunately not Cream playing their version of this song. Man, we loved the long long solos.....

One of my favorites (besides Cream, Hendrix experience, James Gang and others) always was Rory Gallagher starting with a group named ‘Taste'. After that he performed under his name

I was so sad, when he died in 1995.
