The National - All The Wine, from Alligator (2005). Most of this album is pretty incredible, but this track in particular has one of my favorite song lyrics: "I'm a birthday candle in a circle of black girls..." I guess that could be construed as racist in uber PC 2021. Sad.

Ambient space music at its finest. Sure, you might say, "What's the big deal, it's just B-flat major for eight minutes." True, but if you listen very carefully, you'll come to the same conclusion I did: there's just no room for any other chord.

Love this band! They have an authentic 80’s kind of feel that’s all their own.

Check out Cory's solo at about 4:20 @Servant King ...it's like Chick Corea and George Duke had a child who was adopted by Herbie Hancock, and whose Sunday school teacher was Billy Preston.

This is probably one of the most analyzed/studied solos of the past decade, deservedly so: it's absolutely f***** wildly brilliant... I really love how he passes all those dreamy chords early on, so out but so IN, too, great voice leading...I digress. I got to open up for a band on their record label called 'The Funky Knuckles', also pretty great.
