Wild Turkey 101 is on special offer at my local Asda (£21 down from £26) so just had 2 bottles delivered with my groceries. Even Amazon, my usual supplier of spirits couldn't beat that price.

But there was a bonus...each bottle had around its neck a leather key fob with their logo on one side and "Trust Your Spirit" on the other!

Roll on 10pm tonight when I break open a bottle :col:.

Regards,

Jay.
Enjoy Jay. That fine distillation is a staple around my neck of the woods. Always available, fairly priced and always delivers. I tend to favor my whiskeys with a little higher percentage of rye in the malt bill.

I am fortunate enough to have a friend in my bourbon circle that has plenty of time and money on his hands. He and his wife flew out to Park City Utah and bought 2 cases of High West - A Midwinter Night‘s Dram - The Encore, distillery only release. He dropped mine off yesterday, so it prompted me to pull out an opened bottle of Act 8 and have a pour last night. Christmas in a glass.

Cheers!

Coffee and cream. I rarely partake in alcoholic beverages now days. Not that I'm trying to quit or anything, just don't enjoy getting shit faced like I used to. I mean, there are some spirits I enjoy drinking without getting drunk. But comparatively, they don't taste all that great.

We were in Brooklyn and decided not to bring any vials with us from my Christmas present from Susan, the 2022 Flaviar Advent Calendar, “The Depths of Whiskey,” so we have some catching up to do. UFC 282 is done—there were about ten nice finishes and two questionable decisions. Still, an enjoyable fight card.

Tasting vial 6. Green apple on the nose. No good legs in the glass on the swirl. Very sweet on initial sip, spice overpowers all else. Susan feels it burns. Short cherry note, followed by a long peppery finish. This doesn’t have a lot of depth.

Vial 5 was Redemption Wheated Bourbon, 96 proof.

Vial 7: Caramel, dried plum on the nose. Good legs in the glass, nice colour. Tart taste on the tip of the tongue on initial sip, hint of pepper, Mandarin orange citrus note, some mint. I’m not sure these pours are large enough to spend the time to give better, more in-depth tasting notes. We're splitting the vials in the Wee Glencairn glasses. These aren’t the normal full pours in a full sized glass we’d normally do when doing tastings with our friends, but, it’s still fun. Normally, there’s enough spirit to spend time with it and open up over a longer period.

Vial 6 was Mars Iwai 45 Whisky, 90 proof. Vial 1 was our last favourite thus far, followed by this one.

Vial 8: We laughed because the nose smells like aftershave, almost like Old Spice—may be the strangest nose on a whisky I’ve ever experienced—with a little more time, the nose comes across as fresh cut pine. Sweet, orange peel taste. Easily the most interesting one so far that we’re enjoying the most so far. Unique. Looking forward to finding out what it is, probably tomorrow.

Vial 7 was J. Rieger & Co. Kansas City Whiskey, 92 proof.

Enjoying this glass of Jim Beam Black Label. Very nice bourbon for the price.

I'm an economy bourbon man, myself. Evan Williams and Ezra Brooks punch well above their "well" status.

However, when going a step up, Jim Beam Black gets my vote. The next tier is the line from High West, which is how selling at Meijer.

Started with a Misguided Spirits Hinky Dink’s Working Man’s Rye Whiskey, followed by a Sixpoint Resin, and a Pappy Van Winkle at the Lock Yard Christmas Party in Brooklyn. That's Olive, and she’s about sixty pounds. I gave my buddy a Missouri Meerschaum Snowman, Cringle Flake Holiday Edition 2022, and a tin of Esoterica Pembroke. He just poured me the Pappy. Life is good
