I was digging around in my cellar and found a tin of this blend from either 2006 or 1990. The hand written date stamp on the bottom is either a 90 or an 06, hard to tell and it depends on which way you look at the tin. I picked this up with a tin of McClelland Dark Star from eBay awhile back. The Dark Star was compromised as the tin had rusted from the inside and it was definitely from 1990. The seller sent me this Wessex to make up for the Dark Star tin.
I popped it last night to give this a try, having never tried it before.

The bottom picture shows it is just two long flakes in the tin. This is a great blend and I can see why people are stocking up on it. I'm smoking a bowl right now in a Jerry Crawford Lovat and the flake is very smooth with a nice sweetness to it.
The two pipes are both Tinsky's that recently arrived.

Harris put that on my "must try" list and finally snatched 10 tins from SP two minutes after the Email alert. The last one I was in the middle of things and got on 2 hours later and gone!. This should be on everyone's must try list. It's frackin fantastic. I cellared eight and will be grabbing another 10 when they become available. I've been on a no tobacco purchase this years as my New Years resolution. Putting all the money into the shop instead of splitting it each month. The only exception to the rule is Wessex Brigade Campaign Dark Flake.

I lucked in to getting some that was quite old. All the paper in it was brown with oils and the tobacco was fairly uniform jet black. Raiding long-neglected pipe shops pays off I guess, I still have two tins.
I'd be interested to try it new to see how it compares.

I'm going to do myself a disservice by saying this but this stuff is amazing. I'm having a bowl now in an old Comoy's and I wish it wouldn't end. So good it hurts.

Having a bowl of cube cut in my Trypis volcano and watching my Flyers (hopefully) evening up the series against the nasty Rangers. This tobacco is so multi-dimensional

junkyarddawg, it is nothing like Marlin flake as that is a red virginia blend and BCDF has none of that in it.
Mike, I am smoking a bowl of the BCDF as I type this post and it is my favorite blend even ahead of Stonehaven and all my other flakes. The sweetness of this blend has a real molasses back bone that just keeps me reaching for it almost daily. I stocked up as much as I did(240 tins) because I wanted to be able to smoke a tin a month for the next 20 years. I am definitely all done buying this one so you don't have to worry about me anymore. Now peck on the other hand is another matter, he said he was all done buying but you never know. I told him I was all done at 220 but after figuring out I needed 240 for my 20 year supply, I had to grab that last 20.
My oldest tins are from July of 2012 and I know this stuff is going to be even more incredible with some serious age to it.

I remember really liking this blend but somehow forgot about it. The interest in this tobacco in several forums has me wanting to stock up.

I'd be curious to know how you read the date on the tin, because I'd like to know how old mine are. Should have asked when I posted last time!

My date was handwritten, which is the problem. Its either a 90 or 06 depending on the angle viewed.
Ugh..It would have killed the person dating the tin to take a .25th of a second more to put a line under the numbers indicating which year it in fact was?
Details people DETAILS!!!

those of you with tins with age on them should do us all a review on how it is say new tin, 1 year and two year and longer if you have one. Pics would be great as well to show how the aging turned out.

I have only smoked one tin that was a year and a half old and I could taste a slight difference. It was a tad sweeter and rounder. It did not look any different so I am smoking new stock waiting for my older tins to get more age. I love how it taste fresh so I want to get another couple of years on some of my oldest stock before I begin smoking more aged stuff.

I've got a tin of this in my cellar. I received it from a friend and I wasn't familiar with this blend at all. I wasn't sure what to expect, but after reading the comments it sounds like its some good stuff.
