I've done keto on and off since the '90s—I'm usually less sluggish and feel better when I'm on it, and am better about hydrating and flushing my system with water when I'm on it. The last time was before the pandemic. With the uncertainty of food availability at the time, we stocked up on pasta and rice and that was the beginning of packing on some extra pounds, which definitely needs some shedding.

I’ve been doing the specific carbohydrate diet which is very similar to the keto diet. I started last November after being diagnosed with ulcerative colitis and it helps a lot getting my symptoms under control.
I thought it seemed kooky when I heard about it but I hate being on meds so I was willing to try it. It’s not perfect and you've got to tweak some things to work for you but my symptoms are waaay better than they were when I was on the horse pills that the drs gave me.

I did kepo for about a year and a half, went from 317 to 180, then got off it for the last 6 months because "oh I can control myself now" .. needless to say put 30 pounds back on and now it's time to go back to kept, get to my goal weight and then do more of a just reduced carb diet. I'm only at 210 which isn't "horrible" but yah time to get back to it.

I was in bad shape when I hit my 50’s. Overweight, high blood pressure, pre-diabetic, high cholesterol. I had been following the SAD diet recommended by my doctors and was physically active but felt like crap. My doctor started recommending blood pressure and cholesterol medication but I resisted because I saw what the medications did to my dad and uncles. These strong active men basically shriveled up. But, at least their “numbers” were good. I started doing research on line to try and heal myself. I started reading about the keto, low carb, zero carb diets and it all made perfect sense. I started out with the carnivore zero carb diet for one month and lost about 30 pounds, with no extra exercise.

My wife was impressed so she started researching and found the website of Dr. Ken Berry. Dr. Ken Berry - Creator of the Proper Human Diet, Keto & Low-Carb Lifestyle - https://www.drberry.com/ Dr. Berry has some good, short videos on YouTube that helped get us started. KenDBerryMD - https://www.youtube.com/c/KenDBerryMD/videos We basically follow his Proper Human Diet (PHD) Plan and feel better than we have in a long time. There are plenty of other resources available to get started on low carb eating. She had the same health issues as me and lost 40 pounds with no added exercise.

Our “numbers” are now good except for cholesterol is borderline but that is a bogus number used to sell cholesterol medication so we don’t care. Our body needs cholesterol to build and repair. We split seven or eight scrambled eggs with bacon or sausage every morning. Most everything we have been taught about diet has been designed to maximize profits for the food and pharmaceutical industries, it has nothing to do with our health. We now eat mostly beef on the grill with some low carb vegetable. Beef has every nutrient needed for good health. We have chicken and fish on occasion. Shopping, cooking, and cleanup are quick and easy. We eat all we want and are never hungry. At 60 years old I weigh what l weighed when l was a senior in high school.

Good luck with your new life journey. Once you break the sugar/carb addiction it is easy.

Amen to everything you say! My wife and I are approaching 5 months on the carnivore diet. We're pretty strict with the exception of my beloved Belfast black tea with a splash of milk. I've lost 35 lbs and have never felt better. Psoriasis is fading away, arthritis is gone completely, and residual anxiety is gone.
I won't get started on Big Pharma and Big Food(starches), but if was looking for a conspiracy I bet I could find one!
Keep it up and don't be afraid to be a proselytizer!

So good to hear. I could go carnivore no problem but my wife eats low carb so I eat a few low carb vegetables along with her. Other issues that have been resolved are frequent hemorrhoids, irritable bowel, frequent skin tags, sinus headaches, almost constant fungal infections, insomnia and probably other conditions I can’t think of right now. I was a physical wreck. I only talked about it at first when people asked how I lost my weight. I would tell them, and every time they would say that it was unhealthy. Many of them were obese and pre-diabetic. They didn’t care that I was the healthiest I had been since my 20’s. So, I don’t talk about it much now.

Take care, and best of luck with continued health.

Our bodies were designed for a low carb diet. Humans didn't eat grains for the first 200,000 of existence.
My wife and I eat low carb naturally.
We grow 99% of our food, only buying spices and such.
Our Irish Dexter cattle are perfect for small scale farming. They are 1/2 the size of other cattle, their meat tastes great, and they have 5% milk fat which makes great cheese, cream and any other dairy food.
If you just eat wholesome food, the pounds will fall off naturally.
Just go to the meat, cheese, spice and produce isle in the grocery store and you will be fine.

6 months carnivore here as well. Amazing results. No more heart burn, no more excess weight (at 49 i am back to what i weighed in college), much more steady energy throughout the day without the "food coma" syndrome after every meal from insulin spike/drop, clearer mind, better memory, and the list goes on and on. Keep it up! 👍

I am a big believer in the carnivore diet. No limits, eat until you're full. Real beef is extremely satiating, and you don't get hungry again nearly as quickly. In fact, I find it difficult to eat enough. I want to eat 40 - 50 grams of protein three times a day, but find that I naturally settle into two meals a day. 6 or 8 eggs plus bacon or sausage at about 11:00, then I don't need anything until supper. A one pound hamburger for supper and I'm good to go. Doctors are now curing things like diabetes regularly and easily with the carnivore diet because the vast majority of the American diet is junk calories, sugar, processed carbs, and other poisons. Check these guys out:

I've played with many things at different times. Strict keto, raw vegan, short stretches of carnivore, whole-food-plant-based, 4+ day water fasts, etc.

Recently I've tried some strict keto again, and some alternate-day water fasting. As I was looking into it again, I came across the most helpful study I'd seen yet, which established pretty convincingly that the parity between keto and non-keto diets of equal caloric restriction exists only in the short term, as a very low carb diet actually up-regulates metabolism in the long term, unlike every other form of caloric-restriction which eventually down-regulates metabolism (with the possible exception of water fasting for longer than 24 hours, which arguably does not result in down-regulation, not to be confused with intermittent fasting within the day, which is simply caloric restriction and eventually leads to down-regulation as well).

Still, if I'm being honest, I myself never felt better than when on the strictest form of WFPB (nothing more processed than Ezekiel bread -- extremely different than typical vegan diets). And the longevity studies are what they are. Nevertheless, I did give up lifting during that time because of the protein requirements, so I've been back to animal proteins to support that. But if cancer ever rears its head again, or if I get to feeling crappy enough, I'll probably go back to WFPB for awhile. I felt extremely healthy then.

I would guess that politics and the big grain companies played a part in this.
Literally a matter of record. Like not even questionable. Dairy also had some big hand in it.

Obesity is rampant in the modern world. We were "designed" to eat fat and protein supplemented with nuts, berries(in season), and greens we could forage. Between the incredible availability of processed foods laden with sugar and carbs, and aggressive advertising we are all killing ourselves slowly.
We are both lucky that we love eggs, meat, cheese, olives, etc. We feel reinforced by the new scientific knowledge, because it tends to rob the bad stuff of it's attraction.
My pipe smoking is a calculated risk I'm willing to take, but eating unintelligently not so much.
Lecture over! Please share your thoughts.
Diet is complicated. And what works for one person isn't going to work for another, and even more so sometimes the diet that works for you will change either with age or activities.
I personally am not a big fan of most diets that have names. I think in a lot of cases limiting ones diet can help people even if it just makes them more aware of what they're eating and how much. Also sometimes I think people change a diet and get big gains because they're eating things they've neglected for a long time.
But processed stuff especially large amounts of sugar certainly will help a person gain fat.
But at the end of the day the most important thing is the gains you get and how you feel. (health isn't just longevity).

The latest fad diet and weight losing drugs are always entertaining, anything to avoid self discipline. A good balanced diet, providing everything one's body needs, then burning up more calories than taken in and the weight sluffs off, scientific fact. Does take a bit of will power though. Oh, and no reverting to bad, old habits once you attain your goal.
