The pocket watch looks like the very first one I ever bought, to go with the western style tux I wore to the prom in 82.

I bet you were looking sharp. My wife just told me she bought the pocket watch at Service Merchandise. Did they have those down your way? I loved it. Sadly long out of business. You could get everything there, from jewelry, car stereos to rifles and shotguns.

Your Marine Corps watch is awesome.

Yes, Service Merchandise was a popular everything store in the DFW area when I was growing up, but I bought mine at Wells Boot Center with a new pair of Tony Lama's for the big night. And thanks, after 22 years and a lifetime of memories both good and bad that watch is one of my most prized possessions.

I recently started appreciating watches, mostly for the same reasons I appreciate pipes. But as others have pointed out, it also saves me from pulling my phone out all the time, which I have come to dislike more and more, personally. Now that I’ve been wearing one regularly, I don’t think I’ll ever go without one, just like a pocket knife.IMG_8439.jpeg

Anyone have any recommendations for someone with a large wrist. My wrist is just shy of 9in in circumference and can just barely fit in a military strap on its max setting. Every watch I look at is too small for my wrist. Am I just stuck with link watches?

Watch style preference? Quartz or mechanical? Budget?

If you like divers, Seiko makes a number of them in a 45mm case size. Also Tissot Seastar 2000 in 46mm is a great value. Marathon makes a 46mm JSAR, but you'd have to get it in quartz to stay in budget, the auto version is 2k. Marathon uses tritium in some of their models instead of Super Luminova, if that matters to you.

Rolex or Tudor and add links if needed. Oyster Bracelets are extremely comfortable and durable.
If your up for custom leather on something else Bulang & Sons is great too and can be custom ordered for length via email.

I ordered myself an Orient Kamasu, as a "new life" kind of watch. I already have an Orient Mako 2, basically the same watch but I liked the besel on this one, a little flatter. My daughter cant stop complimenting it. I've been looking for my "One watch to rule them all". So I think this will be the watch for me. Been a few weeks now.

Have a custom strap made. You can specify the lug width, the strap lengths/widths, and tang hole placements.

My recommendation is Micah at Vintager Straps.

Good luck with that 😂
Like pipes, there is always the next one.
I wore my gshock square for over 5 years straight. I bought a few watches during that time and never wore them. For me, it's easier to wear one watch than it is to smoke only one pipe 🤣 i just need to find the right one.
