Sunny Cornwall, UK.
It's a byproduct of the brewing process.
Not sure if this still applies but the original Marmite factory was next door to the Bass brewery in Burton On Trent for obvious reasons.

And if Vegemite is anything like Marmite then spread it on toast VERY thinly.....that way it's really delicious, spread too thickly however, you will never want to eat it again.

BTW, it keeps forever so you can ignore the 'use by' date.

Yes
Right, I can imagine that. A chef friend told me it's great to put condimental amounts of soy, Worcestershire or fish sauce in beef in particular. Ups the umami, provides some saltiness and depth but doesn't alter the flavour. I'll always add a splash of soy with beef mince.
Yes, this. I use it to boost umami in many sauces and crockpot red meat dishes

that toast looks like it didnt see a grill, needs longer ;)
That was just perfect for me. Fresh bread direct from the bakery and lightly roasted. It won't get any better I think. For me that is just perfect :) It would be a whaste to roast it longer like I do with old bread.

Most certainly. Haven't tried it with cheese before but when I was young I used to add a layer of peanutbutter between the butter and the Marmite. Loved it at the time but now can't really remember why?
Even the thought of it makes me think very much of what Cosmicfolklore said here in the beginning.

Ive had both Vegemite and Marmite.....don't care for them.
They aren't the worst tasting, but I see no upside to eating it.
It doesn't taste great, and has no benefit.
I don't care for prunes, but they DO have a benefit. :(
