And what is like Royal Yacht or Old Joe Krantz?

Well, as far as OJK I can think of a couple but from the same house; Burley Flake #3 and Haunted Bookshop are very similar in my opinion. Royal Yacht is perdy unique stuff and count me in the "love it" camp.

Peretti's Cuban Mixture is unparalleled too IMHO...

Thanks, I'll look into that!
No one here has tried the blend with Deer Tongue?

Hudson Bay from Brigham is supposed to be very similar to the Yacht, but word on the street is that Brigham is discontinuing all of their blends.

Royal Yacht, IMO, is blended and flavored In a way that appeals to those that smoke those Irish plugs (not that Peterson plug) like Yachtsman, Warrior, and such. It's not exact to any of them, but is a ribbon cut that has a "similar" flavor profile. To those that can only smoke what you can get in stores of the US, no there's nothing's like it, except Hudson.

Cuban is one of the few Perettis I haven't tried. What makes it unique?

Here's a question...how come the Yacht ( a tipped VA Blend) doesn't bite?
Recently tried John Pattons Oriental Dusk - it's unique in that it is a cigar leaf blend where I found the leaf truly took a back seat

"Created at the turn of the century, this combination of seven different tobaccos is our oldest mixture, originally blended by L.J. Peretti."
However and whatever they do simply gives it a unique flavor. I haven't had anything else resembling it, if it's out there at all.

No I don't have a thread yet on the subject about the cherry Va per blend. Ideally i would love to just use a topping an a good Va per blend, but i am having to use a black cherry Cavendish mixed with stoves vas and straight perique. It might take some time playing around with different mixtures and va's to get it right.

I agree that grousemoor is unique, also bobs choc flake. When I get a craving for BCF I cannot satisfy it with anything else, it only happens a couple of times a year and one bowl seems to do the trick.

I would put Germain and Son's Plum Cake Mixture in the "unique" category.
It tastes like someone tried to make a gin flavoured aromatic, but failed.

Two Friends English Chocolate ... also very unique.

That one is pretty tasty and I prefer it in a cob but recently I've been totally blown away by Gawith, Hogarth blends and I give the nod to Bob's.

This thread is really interesting to me. To be honest, the uniqueness factor is what keeps drawing me back to pipe tobacco. I like smoking something that I can't really put my finger on. For me, the interesting blends have been--
-Royal Yacht. All the love/hate reviews intrigued me, and I really liked it. The strength is also intriguing to me.
-McClelland 2045 Oriental - I ordered a few oriental blends, but to my palate, the orientals are a distant second to the latakia in terms of flavor profile. With the 2045, the orientals are the focus, which for me (as a new smoker) is really interesting. I know it's probably not that unique, but remember--I'm still somewhat new to pipe smoking.
Thanks to this thread some Grousemoor is now in my P&C Basket, along with some 1792 Flake for good measure. Time to venture into the Lakeland district.

Orley mentioned Crooner and I like Gentleman Caller. Both from C&D and both have deer tongue.
That said, Orley's vote was for thumbs down for Crooner. I've been smoking quite a bit of it lately, and I enjoy it.
